Marcos caught the last train of the night, too tired to question where it was headed. Shorly after sitting down, he looked out the window and noticed that the world outside was just a blur, as if it was impossible to see due to the train’s speed.

Everyone else on the train traveled in silence, the air seemed heavy as if they all knew something he didn’t. Marcos decided to ask the woman sitting in front of him what was happening. She responded with a sad expression, saying that the train never stopped and that everyone was trapped there forever.

Marcos stood up in despair and ran through all the carriages, but soon realized it was useless because all of them were identical. There was no conductor, no end.

When he returned to his seat, he noticed the woman had vanished. Marcos looked at the window and saw his reflection aging and fading away, merging with the mist outside.

Now he knew. The train had no destination, and he was already part of it.

“Ice”

Another day in the 1990s, summer was turning me into a burning candle due to the heat, probably because all the windows and any source of fresh air were closed and the old air conditioning had been sitting for years, dusty and infested with little worms. In this situation, an Alabama man would sleep or just endure the hot breeze, but I, all the time, had a glass of soda... the glazed and sweet taste, the coolness of such a sophisticated drink, the gas bubbles coming straight to my mouth, and that good ice cube at the bottom of the glass—oh yes, the huge ice cube at the bottom of the glass. Chewing it left me very satisfied, feeling the crunchy and metallic liquid... metallic taste... a unique sensation, say, if passing through. There was just one little thing bothering me, so petty and miserable that it wouldn’t even be worth my time to resolve it... Some time ago, the refrigerator stopped working, the ice cubes were no longer there, and that didn’t allow me to chew them anymore. However, the crunchy and picturesque sensation continued, in this case, with a metallic taste...

A certain day, more specifically in december, 3rd, ’80; me, Kate, was 19 years old, i was Young,

i used to go to parties with my friends, i liked this.

In this day, it was early in the morning, i was leaving a party with my friends, Emma and Diane,

they were drunked, me as i not drink beer, i was not drunk. While we were walking in the

aveniue, a suspect red pick-up stopped near of us, and i could see a bald old man, wearing

social clothes, he offered a ride for us. I was really scared so I decided to walk to my house by

foot, but, my friends accepted the ride.

Two days later, Emma and Diane disappeared, they didn't respond to my messages and they

weren't at home, obviously i called the police, I described The Man, a bald, white, old man,

appearing to be around 70 years old, wearing formal clothes and a little above average height,

probably around 5′ 11″ feet, the police said to me, The Man with this characteristics was

reported in 11 other American states, but here in San Francisco, they have not yet reported

anyone with such characteristics.

I didn’t do something, but those thoughts still poppin up my mind, i was decided to go to the

same aveniue. Didn’t have anything except woods, but in the final of the aveniue, had a big old

mansion, and the same red pick-up was there. I didn’t know what i was thinking, but took a

rock in the ground and i broke the window to enter.

When I was into the mansion, didn’t looks like that had someone there, a terrible silence was

in the living room, there was a big stair opposite me. So I went up for the second floor, the

wooden steps creaked when I was going. Upstair, there was a hall with many rooms, but the

majority was locked, the only one that wasn’t locked was the last.

When I opened the door, I saw my frinds well and the same Man sitting in an armchair, and I

didn’t undertand that, because they were missing, after I questioned them, Diane said it was

normal, and Emma supplemented by telling us to have a whiskey together. At the same

moment I realized that they were victims of brainwashing, because I don’t drink alcohol. So I

ran awey of that room very quikly, but The Man just apeared in front of me while I went down

the stairs, so I pished him down and and I used the broken glass from the window to cut him.

After that I was able to get the keys to the truck that were with him, I jumped through the

window and drove his car for a nearest police station, where I said what I went through.

When the police arriver, there was no one there, neither my friends, neither The Man, just a

letter, saying that he would be back.

The story is from the point of view of the character named Marcos, we start reading from the point of view of what is on his diary.

"Me and my friends, Sam, Cloe, Charlie and Mary were at Sam's party. [...] He told me that he kissed my girlfriend when he was drunk some days ago. I was very angry."

The day after that, he received the news that his friend Sam, died. They were best friends, so he was really sad with that news. Marcos became even angrier when the police started to think that he could have killed his best friend. After that he went to see his girlfriend, that seems confused and not knowing what was he talking about.

His girlfriend then broke up with him, he felt really bad, because he lost his friend and his girlfriend almost at the same time.

After some time passed, his ex girlfriend said that she wanted to talk to him in emergency in person.

Some minutes later, he heard some strange guys knocking on his door, really loud and yelling his name. At his diary, he seems really mad and indignant, and his last phrase written on the diary was "I can't do this anymore."

After that we start to read from his ex girlfriend pov, because she went to his house after some minutes the police officers went there. She read all his diary, and got even more confused, asking herself who was "Sam"? Some minutes ago, the police officers came to talk to Cloe, and told her that he jumped off his window, because he couldn't take the burden of being discovered.

The story finally finishes when Cloe realizes that he was crazy all this time and the cops weren't there because they thought he killed someone, but because they discovered that he was crazy, and it was a danger to society.

Sam never existed. His girlfriend never cheated on him. He was just a sick boy who didn't wanted that anyone knows that he was crazy.
