I am feeling rather nervous but also eager to get myself going with this course. It has been a while since I have used my literary skills in an academic environment. The time I actually studied a course like this was in 2013 I think? The whole experience was pretty awful and it put me in a bad place in regards to continuing my passion related to Film Making.

I have never used Padlet before in my life. I like to think of padlet as like a diary and instead of instead of it being physical. Padlet is more of a digital diary which I am thankful for as my handwriting is pretty terrible.

I am thinking of creating a tongue in cheek ad involving a crate. Say your day is going terribly. You just want to curl in a ball and cry your guts out. Now presenting the Anxiety Crate! All you need to do is climb in and all the pressures of living life will slowly fade away. You will begin to feel calm and embrace all that is good. All you need is a crate. An Anxiety Crate! I also might create a video involving VR and how all the advertisements make it out to be some kind of life changing experience even though the tech isn't exactly there yet.

I am quite overwhelmed with the whole idea of referencing as you can easily make a mistake when it comes to in-text referencing, so it is quite handy that we are given a Harvard Referencing Guide in case we do not know how to reference a give source whether it is physical or digital.

I was initially thinking of creating an advertisement based on the troubles of anxiety but decided against it as I find the subject material to be too close to home. I decided to instead focus on an advertisement related to Virtual Reality and how the technology still isn't there yet.

Virtual reality cannot be properly translated in real time as there is always going to be an input delay (Stankovic 2016, p. 89). As the player is trying to comprehend both the VR's virtual landscape whilst mimicking motions in real-time, it discombobulates their minds. This disconnect is because there is too much of a sensory overload between the virtual setting and physical motions of utilizing two wands (which does not obfuscate the issue).

With a high entry cost of admission into the virtual world as well as the risk of motion sickness (Evans 2018, pp. 2-3). Virtual Reality is still niche and is not as accessible as many would like to assume.

Virtual reality but real -- The message that I wish to promote is how the notion of virtual reality in and of itself can be ridiculous. As virtual reality is still in its infancy, there are many simulator games that are duds/tech demos -- a taste of what VR could be. Most of time, these are not fully realised ideas. Thus, I wanted to create a sarcastic tongue-in-cheek advertisement making fun of the idea of VR.

I mainly also want to make fun of the advertisements made for virtual reality. Many of them use exaggerated movements, and sell the products as if the game is in time with reality. Matter of fact is with VR, motion sickness is extremely common, wearing the headset for prolonged hours becomes tiring and there is a lag between real-time and reality.

There are many VR works that are amazing, and utilise the system quite well, such as Half Life Alyx, Super Hot and Beat Saber. On the other hand, there are VR titles that are of questionable quality or are in a sense tech demos. Tech demos used to showcase what VR is capable of, but, not at its full potential. Most VR games are a gimmick, and many VR players leave their kits in their closet collecting dust.

However, I cannot assume that most VR games are like this, or that the VR gaming community as a whole only play VR games for a short amount of time. There are many people who can handle long hours of playing VR, but at the same time, many also suffer motion sickness from it.

Many VR games promote the idea of realism, which in and of itself, is contradictory because the technology is just not there at this stage and time. For example, the person for the most part, is stationary when playing to prevent motion sickness. Most of the time, the games will teleport you as you stand in one spot to offset motion sickness.

The tone of the video takes a funny turn where instead of there being a bombastic experience, it is instead showcasing a somewhat realistic approach into how VR actually plays out (VR Chat weirdness).

Action - By the end of the video, it should make the audience realise that many tech companies sell the idea of VR rather than the actual product. VR is not there yet technologically, however, it still a great product to utilise, and I am showing it through a funny example.

The reverse virtual reality advertisement.

Cut to long shot of man opening up his VR KIT. He exclaims to himself that he is super excited to do things that he cannot do in real life. Medium shot of man taking out the headset which then cuts to a close up shot of him putting it on his head. The scene fades to black and fades back in to him being in well lit room via a first person perspective. The room is empty and devoid of life. Cut to a medium shot of the man looking around and taking a seat. He exclaims to himself how there is nobody but himself and that servers must be empty at the moment. The camera is back to a POV shot which slowly pans to the left and suddenly quick pans to the right from a sound cue involving a smashed glass. A man in a horse mask is eerily standing in the corner menacingly. Medium close up shot of man waving his hand and saying hello to the horseman with his stiff hands. Cut back to a low angle shot with a dutch angle on Horseman. Horseman does not respond, and instead huffs at him, acting out his role play. Cut back to previous shot of the man uncomfortably chuckling and trying to back away. Cut to POV shot of the horseman quickly scuttling creepily towards the man's direction. VR man screams in terror and cuts to reality where he is so frightened he trips over the several cables connected to the headset. Subtitles appear stating 'Virtual, but reality'.

This week, we focused on finishing up our padlet while also working on what tone that we wanted to convey in our promotional video advertisement.

I looked for different sources in my search for a good font in which I can use for my video and what I ended with was a font called nasalization which is pretty ironic given that I am working on something futuristic and all things nerd culture.

I think my target audience will think of a few things when it comes to virtual reality with the key idea being immersion and the second idea being able to do things in which we cannot attempt in real life such as murder. After my advertisement is played out to the audience. I want the them to feel surprised and shocked because I wanted to show and convey a different tone for Virtual Reality which is not often portrayed in similar ads which is the ridiculousness side of Virtual Reality. I want to convey a lighthearted tone with my video and that Virtual Reality does not have to be awe-inspiring or life changing.

I've decided to use this font as it gives off a scientific and nerdy vibe. This fits with the overall aesthetic of what I am trying to portray in the video. Technological and futuristic which is what Virtual Reality represents.
