It is small in size but millions of people come to visit every year.  Moslems come to pray inside the Dome of the Rock and Al Aqsa Mosque. Christians come to pray in the Churches, especially, the church of the Holy Sepulchre. To the north, east and south of the old city there are Arab Palestinian villages. The city is surrounded with walls from all sides and in order to get into one of the four quarters you can go through one of the eight open gates.
