Gifford Pinchot - Pinchot tripled the number of forest reserves as the first chief of the US Forest Service and as a result, protected protected their health and for conservation and recreation. He also played an important role in the Yale school of forestry and began the American Society of Foresters for those interested in protecting forestry.
John Muir - Muir is best known for founding Yosemite national park, as well as writing magazines and books convincing people to love and protect nature. Dewey insisted that the old model of schooling—students sitting in rows, memorizing and reciting—was antiquated. Students should be active, not passive.
-Dewey argued that curriculum should be relevant to students' lives. He saw learning by doing and development of practical life skills as crucial to children's education.
- Thomas Mann stood his ground for five more years and continued to bring uniformity to programs and quality of instruction. Mann saw revenue for education rise precipitously over the twelve years of his tenure (1836–1848). Preservation of the Environment:
In 2016, there are  more then 400 national parks all over the country. "National parks contain forested areas that not only protect water sources, they also help stabilize the surrounding land. This can save lives and infrastructure by preventing landslides, avalanches and erosion. These areas also reduce floods by keeping natural river basins intact and preserving wetlands."
Pollution control:
With maintaining large amounts of vegetation and nature, it cleans the air of pollution, and maintains a balance between the industrial cities and nature. Today, National Parks are also teaming up with Scientists to help understand and improve air pollution more. 1906 --> Colorados Mesa Verde was the first national park to presurve our culture.

1916 --> National parks were brought to the East coast, Acadia becoming the first one.

August 25, 1916 --> Woodrow Wilson signed the "Organic Act" creating national park services.

1933 --> 56 national monuments and military sites like Pennyslyvanias Gettysburg Military Park became national parks.

1933-42 --> As a result of the Great Depression Franklin Roosevelt put civilians to work in the national parks throught the Civilians Conservation Corps.

The goal is to also manage programs with the purpose of extending the benefits of these parks across the world. Zion for example has had to restrict the amount of people coming in and people have to make reservations.

--> People are more willing to pay taxes to protect national parks because of the beauty and how they protect our environment/prevent pollution.
