Canada's commitment to net zero by 2050, underscored the intricacies of the energy trilemma-balancing climate change mitigation, energy security, and equity. Legislative actions like the Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act align with global initiatives, emphasizing the need for climate action. The lecture focused on Ontario as a case study, highlighting the challenges of growing electricity demand in the transition to cleaner energy sources. Electrification emerged as a key strategy, but its complexity involves considerations of affordability, infrastructure, and technology readiness.

In the third class reflection, we explore Canada's energy situation and the ambition to be at net-zero by 2050. We focused on the significance of both environmental stewardship and energy security along with the equal participation of stakeholders in policymaking. The energy trilemma, or balancing five aspects, namely climate change, energy security, and energy justice, surfaced as a major performance indicator. The Paris Agreement in addition to other International commitments was considered, and transitioning to electric mobility was discussed among other challenges and opportunities. In essence, the lecture was a call to a joint interaction, forward-thinking approach in order to make a smooth energy transition and to have the sustainable future for Canada.

Mr. Joerg Wittenbrinck emphasized the significance of energy policies, focusing on Ontario's clean energy landscape and the challenges of effective communication. He stressed the need for technical planning over political decisions, highlighting time horizons and the roles of agencies like IESO. Addressing risk perception, he underscored the importance of transparency and communication for a successful transition to sustainable energy. The goal to clean energy is near and it must be taken with sufficient manner.

On this weeks reflection we will be looking into the course material remotely due to not being present in class. Larisa Logan's presentation on Canadian energy standards was enriching and insightful. She emphasized the collaborative nature of standards development, highlighting the role of diverse stakeholders like policymakers and the CSA Group in advancing industry standards. Professor Hoornweg's lecture on hydrogen generation underscored the influence of tangible and intangible factors, while discussing the impact of regulatory decisions and geopolitical dynamics on energy systems, notably drawing from the German experience. It seems that I missed a very interesting and informative class but nonetheless hopefully this reflection grasps at the content presented.
