POSITIVE: more often than not, memes of nurses after a 12 hour shift portray the nurse as haggard which is not appealing. In this post, she does look tired which makes sense, but the AI image shows her happy and smiling. To me it says "nursing is hard, but when you find where you're meant to be, it's worth it"

Negative. While this meme does represent the difficulty of nursing school, it also could have negative connotations to those that see it and push them away from the field. Nursing school is difficult, but that is intentional in order to create the most effective care. I believe that the compromises, long hours studying, and generally struggling will make us all better nurses in the long run.

She emphasized four things to know before the program and been a better nurse.

1- Being organized is a success: that is how we gain the skill of prioritizing and organizing tasks in the field of nursing.

2- Experiencing doubt: Always asked myself is it the right path, off course since you had a dream for it, just pursue it.

 3- Testing your limits!

I have never been so stressed in my life than being in this nursing program, that can foster you to a better nurse taker.

4- Is nursing school worth it?

That is why it is hard, like Casey mentioned " nursing is hard, but when you find where you are meant to be, it is worth it".

Negative: While nursing exams, and nursing school in general are very difficult, I think this post over exaggerates. I have absolutely struggled on exams, but this post suggests that they are impossible and nonsensical. I think it also mischaracterizes nursing instructors and cruel and unforgiving. Nursing school is difficult, no doubt, but when a profession holds so much responsibility, it is necessary to make sure its employees are intelligent and hard-working.

While it is true that nurses deal with a lot on the job, I think the way this post is framed normalizes having a lack of empathy in nursing, something that is a core principle of being a good nurse.

Positive: This meme made me laugh because it honestly feels so relatable even during clinical. Patients get frustrated being NPO for a few hours, however nurses and nursing students barely get time to eat, drink water or even use the bathroom during long hour shifts. this meme shows one of the stressful yet realistic parts of health care that people outside of nursing do not always see. At the same time, it also shows how nurses still continue to care for patients even when they are tired or uncomfortable themselves. I think that humor like this helps nurses and nursing students relate to each other and cope with stress better.

For my social media topic, I chose a video about nurse burned out. In my opinion, the video has positive impact nursing and also creating awareness of how should take proper care of themselves. The positive impact is that it raises awareness about the emotional and physical stress nurses experience in healthcare settings. It also helps people to understand that nurses work long hours, caring for critically ill patients, many patients in the units (1:10), standing for long hours and often experience exhaustion and mental stress. The video also encourages conversations about mental health (how they can care about their mental health), self-care (making it a priority), and the importance of supporting nurses in the workplace. Look at how radiant he was at the beginning of the shift, and how tired he was at the end of the shift. The difference is clear.

Negative: This meme humorously highlights how understaffed nurses often skip meals because they are too busy caring for patients. It connects "intermittent fasting" to workplace stress rather than a healthy lifestyle choice, criticizing poor staffing ratios in healthcare. The joke works through exaggeration and relatable frustration many healthcare workers experience during demanding shifts. Additionally, the meme raises awareness about nurse burnout and the importance of providing healthcare workers with adequate support, rest breaks, and safer working conditions to ensure both employee well-being and quality patient care.

NEGATIVE: I chose this meme because, in my opinion, it creates a negative and unprofessional image of hospitalized patients and nursing care. While the meme is intended to be humorous, it portrays the patient as careless and noncompliant, which can encourage judgment rather than compassion. Many patients struggle with chronic illness, addiction, or lifestyle-related conditions that require understanding and support, not ridicule. Nurses have an ethical responsibility to provide respectful, patient-centered care regardless of a patient’s choices or condition. Social media posts should reflect professionalism, empathy, and the core nursing values of dignity, advocacy, and compassionate care.

POSITIVE: This meme provides a professional yet relatable representation of the physical and emotional demands associated with nursing practice. The comparison between the start and end of a shift highlights the endurance required of nurses who work long hours providing continuous patient care. It also brings attention to occupational challenges such as fatigue, muscle strain, and prolonged standing, which are common in healthcare settings. By humorously illustrating the importance of compression socks, the meme promotes awareness of self-care and wellness strategies that support nurses’ physical health. Overall, the post encourages recognition of the dedication, resilience, and commitment nurses demonstrate daily while maintaining compassionate and safe patient care despite demanding work conditions.

Positive: I chose a TikTok about nursing school exam questions where it feels like two or three answers could all be correct. I think this portrays nursing in a positive light because it shows that nursing is not just about memorizing facts. Nurses have to think critically, prioritize patient needs, and choose the safest answer in different situations.

The video uses humor, but it also reflects a real challenge that nursing students face. NCLEX-style questions are designed to test clinical judgment, and many students struggle with choosing between answers that seem very similar. This helps show how much thought and decision-making goes into nursing education and preparing for patient care.

I think this type of content can help people better understand how challenging nursing school is and how much work goes into becoming a nurse. It also helps nursing students relate to each other and feel less alone when they are stressed about exams. Overall, even though the TikTok is funny, it shows that nursing requires strong critical-thinking skills and a lot of dedication.

This TikTok gives a negative view about the nursing profession because it shows the stress, emotional exhaustion, and toxic work environment that a lot of nurses deal with. Instead of showing nursing as a rewarding career, the video mostly focuses on how overwhelming the job can be and how much pressure nurses are under everyday. The creator’s expressions make it seem like they are frustrated, burned out, and unhappy with the working conditions.

One big negative theme in the TikTok is nurse burnout. Burnout happens when nurses deal with constant stress from long shifts, not enough staff, emotional fatigue, and demanding patients. The video makes it seem like nurses are overworked and unsupported, which can give viewers a bad impression of the profession. Content like this could even make some people not want to become nurses because it focuses more on the struggles instead of the positive things nurses do for patients and healthcare.

The TikTok also adds to some negative stereotypes about nursing culture, like healthcare workplaces being toxic or emotionally draining. These issues can affect job satisfaction, morale, patient safety, and make nurses want to leave their jobs. When nurses share these experiences online, it can really shape how people see the nursing profession.

Even though the video shows nursing in a negative way, it can still be helpful in some ways. It brings attention to real issues like burnout, stress, mental health, and the need for better support in the workplace. Talking about these problems could help healthcare organizations and nursing schools find better ways to support nurses and improve the work environment.

There's an idea that “soft nursing” is just a ridiculously easy nursing job, but every job has its difficulties, and I think that videos like these create a false sense of what nursing is.

Positive Perspective: There is a longstanding stigma within nursing that the experienced nurses are often unwelcoming toward new graduates, commonly used in the phrase "nurses eat their young". This perception is frequently discussed on social media platforms like TikTok and can discourage individuals from pursuing a career in nursing due to concerns about workplace culture and treatment by fellow colleagues.

In this video, Nurse John presents a different perspective by portraying a seasoned nurse who serves as a mentor and advocate for newer nurses rather than contributing to a negative environment. I strongly believe this is an important message because it highlights the positive impact experienced nurses can have when they provide guidance, support, and encouragement. While the video uses humor, many viewers shared stories in the comments about positive experiences with nurses who fostered learning and professional growth rather than creating hostile work environments.

The video also touches on another aspect of workplace incivility, the disrespect that nurses may experience from other healthcare professionals. Social media often has discussions about nurses being treated poorly by physicians or other members of the healthcare team especially new graduate nurses. Nurse John emphasizes that physicians and nurses are colleagues working toward a common goal rather just existing in a superior-subordinate relationship. This to me reinforces the importance of mutual respect, collaboration, and professionalism among the members of the healthcare team.

Overall, this video demonstrates how kindness, mentorship, and respectful communication can contribute to a healthier workplace culture and help reduce incivility within the nursing profession.

This serves as both a self-encouragement, reminding oneself that the responsibilities of nursing require continuous and unremitting efforts, and a tribute to those in the profession, highlighting nursing as a career rooted in compassion, selflessness, and care for others. It suggests that every effort made to help patients is a way of "crowning" oneself.

Positive: This meme shows/demonstrates the importance of therapeutic communication and patient-centered care. This is a humorous situation that many nurses can relate to and it reminds us that taking time to listen to patients can help build trust. Meaningful conversations can make patients feel heard, safe, and supported.Therapeutic communication involves actively listening, showing empathy, using open-ended questions, and allowing patients to express their feelings and concerns without judgment. Even when nurses have demanding workloads, taking a few extra moments to communicate effectively can reduce patient anxiety. The humor in this meme reminds nurses that while conversations may sometimes delay tasks, they are often a valuable part of providing holistic and compassionate care

POSITIVE: This TEDx talk has a positive impact on nursing because it challenges the misconception that nurses are “just nurses.” Dr. Albert highlights the leadership, critical thinking, compassion, and expertise required in the profession. The video talks about normalizing “not knowing everything,” “crying after clinical,” “studying tired,” and “protecting your peace.” I always appreciate seeing posts like this because I tend to be very hard on myself while juggling multiple responsibilities at once, which I know many of us can relate to.

Soemtimes, nursing school can make it feel like we need to be perfect, know everything, never sound dumb, and always get the grades we want. I think content like this is important because it reminds us that struggling sometimes is normal and that we are all learning together. Nursing school and juggling life can be emotionally and mentally exhausting, and posts like this can help students like us feel less alone.

Nursing is my second career and I really love the camaraderie around the profession because there are so many nurses from so many different backgrounds! Social media really highlights that and lets us all come together!

Negative (but also positive?): I believe this TikTok gives outsiders looking in a negative view on nursing due to the sheer amount of tasks that have to be done at one time, but when someone truly loves what they do and care about their patients, they find the way to make it all work. It may be stressful in the moment, but to a nurse and other medical professionals, they know how to get it all done in the most efficient way possible, even if it all feels overwhelming. Looking at this from the perspective of a nursing student, I know that the nurse is trying their best with what they're given and that is the most respectable part of it. There are a lot of things we cannot control in this field, but what we can control is the way we handle them.

Positive: This meme has a positive impact on nursing, because it uses humor to show viewers the stress and challenges nurses experience in their daily work. The joke tells that nursing makes someone feel older than they actually are due to the physical, mental, and emotional demands. Many nurses and nursing students relate to this feeling, which creates a sense of understanding in the nursing field. At the same time, the meme brings attention to an important issue such as; nurse stress, and burnouts. Though this issue has been shown as a humor, it encourages conversations about workload, shortage of staffing, lack of self-care, and workplace wellness. Humor is greatly portrayed in today's social media and everyday conversations. It is often used as a coping mechanism in healthcare that allows individuals to express their thoughts and feelings about challenging situations. Many people prefer to share their experiences anonymously through memes and online posts. Memes like this can help nurses manage stress, connect with others who understand their experiences, and create a sense of community among healthcare professionals. Although humorous, these memes can also raise awareness about the realities of nursing, including burnout, emotional exhaustion, and workplace stress. I remember seeing a similar post like this on my feed when it was my first semester in nursing, and I could relate so much to this meme because of the stress I felt to pass classes, take care of patients during clinical, and learn to give a proper shift report. Memes are very funny is way because it's shows how relatable a nurse or nursing students life is in the hospital, and addressing this burnout issue is something that needs to be shown, discussed, and mention to improve in the coming days.

Positive: I chose this video because I believe it has a positive impact on nursing. The video highlights the strong friendships and support systems that develop during nursing school. It shows how nursing students help each other through difficult experiences such as exams, return demonstrations, clinical rotations, and the stress of balancing school and personal responsibilities.

In my opinion, this type of content helps the public understand the hard work, dedication, and resilience required to become a nurse. It also reminds current nursing students that they are not alone in their struggles. Nursing can be challenging, but teamwork, encouragement, and emotional support from classmates can make a significant difference. This video promotes a positive image of nursing by emphasizing perseverance, collaboration, and professional growth.

NEGATIVE: I view this meme as negative because it highlights unhealthy habits that are common among nurses. The nurse in the meme admits to not exercising, not drinking enough water, and not getting enough sleep. While the meme is intended to be humorous, it reflects a serious issue in healthcare where nurses often neglect their own physical and mental well-being due to demanding work schedules and long hours. Poor self-care can lead to fatigue, stress, burnout, and decreased overall health. The meme serves as a reminder that healthcare professionals need to prioritize their own wellness so they can remain healthy and provide safe, effective care to their patients. Although presented as a joke, the message draws attention to the negative consequences of neglecting self-care.
