She completed the crossing on October 7, 1927, in 15 hours and 15 minutes, traveling from France to England. In the same year, she also became the first person to swim the Straits of Gibraltar.

She specialises in sacrificing herself so I can have the best she can possibly provide.  As I cycle away from her house on a dark evening, she shines her torch as far up the road as the beam will stretch. I know this illustrates how she has shone a light for me all my life. She loves beauty in her garden and her home. She still painted her nails when her hand was riddled with cancer, and puts her lipstick on even if she's feeling a bit under the weather.  I’ve noticed that seeing suffering on the TV disturbs her more than anyone else I’ve known. She’s now nearly 91 and I’m proud to say she still looks fantastic.
