Consiste en una habitación o caja cerrada herméticamente, con un pequeño agujero en una de sus paredes. Cuando la luz del exterior pasa a través de este agujero, se forma una imagen invertida en la pared opuesta. Esta imagen puede ser observada y utilizada como referencia para dibujar o estudiar los detalles de la escena proyectada


La cámara oscura fue utilizada por primera vez por el filósofo chino Mo Di en el siglo V a.C. y posteriormente fue descrita por otros pensadores como Aristóteles y Euclides en los siglos V y IV a.C.. A lo largo de los siglos, la cámara oscura ha evolucionado y se han agregado mejoras, como el uso de lentes para obtener imágenes más claras y definidas
