Basically,  on June 17, 1972, several burglars were arrested inside the office of the Democratic National Committee (located in the Watergate building in Washington, D.C.) The robbers were connected to President Nixon’s reelection campaign, and they had been caught while attempting to wiretap phones and steal secret documents. No one can be sure if Nixon knew about the burglary before it happened but he tried to cover it up, which made many suspicious of him. After his role in the scandal was made public, Nixon resigned.  The Watergate scandal is significant in history because it changed American politics forever. The people had been blatantly lied to by the highest of political officials and American citizens no longer fully trusted presidents or politicians in general. -"It was October of '62, so I was 13 and I was in 8th grade and the whole country was terrified. We were always afraid that the Russians were gonna bomb us; we had this culture in our society of being afraid. Lots of people had bomb shelters and we would have these drills at school where we would hide under our desks-like that would do anything to protect us from a nuclear bomb- because nuclear bombs had already been dropped to end the war with Japan so people knew they were real and destructive. So the Cuban Missile Crisis was where we were afraid that the Russians were gonna set up camp right off the coast of America and just bomb the heck out of us."
2.)  Did you have any close friends/family that were drafted for the Vietnam War?
-"I did. I had some close friends and my husband got out of the draft because I had severe depression. I had a friend who got killed over there, so the Vietnam war was a big part of my life. And Gordon [one of her best friends] has been a lifelong Quaker so he was a conscientious objector and did not have to serve in Vietnam but he did have to do two years of alternative service assigned by the government."
3.) What was your opinion on the fighting in Vietnam? Were you for it or opposed to it? Did you protest it?
-"Yes, I was always against it. I didn't get into any of the marches but they were going on all around me. My father, your great grandfather, went on the anti-war march in Washington and saw Martin Luther King Jr. do his 'I Have A Dream Speech.' 
4.) Do you remember hearing about the different protests taking place at Kent University, etc?
-"I was living at a University from 1967-1969. There were protests going on every weekend there."
5.) Do you remember the police brutality that often occurred at these university protests?
-"I remember a bunch of my friends went to a Chicago democratic convention in 1968 and a lot of them got beat up in the streets. It was very violent."
6.) Did you and your family take part in the civil rights movement?
-"Well my dad was a civil rights activist since the late 1940's. I didn't do protests but I was always very involved in what was going on. I didn't get into protests until the Iraq war."
7.) What do you remember about the MLK Jr. assassination?
-"I remember very clearly. April 4th, 1968. I remember I was with my husband and we were visiting some close friends in Ohio. One of our friends showed up and said, 'Martin Luther King got killed tonight.' And we were overwhelmed with sadness. We turned on the News and there were a lot of riots getting started up. -"no, I lived a simple suburban life it seemed like the war didn't touch us. You know you turned it on TV and you saw it, we didn't know anyone who had sons in the war."
Do you think you would have taken a different path if you weren't raising a child at the time?
-"Yeah, i probably would've gone a different way if i didn't have my daughter to anchor me, you know keep me stable.

What was the scariest part of the war?
"The War wasn't being run correctly by our government and we were see stacked American bodies everywhere, this was the first war we saw where enemies were hidden, they would hide with civilians and dig tunnels under you."
Did you ever protest?
"No I never protested, the time I started thinking the war was the worst was when the veterans actually came back from the war, they would come back hooked on drugs and alcohol, and nobody treated the soldiers properly or fairly when they were forced to go in the first place."
What do you think the biggest flaw in the war was?
"Nixon didn't seem to know what he was doing, he didn't fly pilots in proper zones due to the borders around Vietnam, he was sending in far to many American men that didn't deserve to die, and he was to paranoid to think clearly, always thought he had enemies watching him."

What do you think of our government after watching how they acted toward the american protesters and soldiers?
"i was very disappointed and disgusted by much of our youth and our government combined. those veterans risked their lives in a strange place they didn't ask to go, and they are the ones that were treated the worst, people would cuss at them and spit at them and the government wouldn't even help them when they came back mest up due to the graphic, horrific things they saw."
