The title of this letter should be "The Harsh Expedition's Beginning." There are multiple statements made by the writer of the letter referring to the difficulty he expects to have on his journey. An exact statement made was, "But if I fail, you will see me again soon, or never." (Shelley 11) This shows the doubt the writer has in his ability he will have in returning home after he completes what he has longed to finish. Another quote said, "... and they are sufficient to conquer all fear of danger and death." (Shelley 8) This shows the writer is having to distract himself from the dangerous task at hand with different topics he considers to be happy times.

The name of letter should be "Lost Without a Friend." Poor Robert speaks of the suffering thoughts that have occurred that even if he does succeed his mission he will have no one immediately to share his joy with. He stated, "... but I bitterly feel the want of a friend." (Shelley 13) He also said, "I desire the company of a man that could sympathize with me..." (Shelley 12) Both of these quotes show the longing Robert has to have just one friend to share the moments of his journey with. Seeing Robert like this makes the audience feel pity; therefore, making the audience cheer for his success. We all now hope that Robert finds his one friend.

Robert is just making his sister more comfortable by telling her everything is alright, but he is about to go into the dangerous areas so he wanted to write one more short letter just in case anything happened to him. He has multiple statements such as, "No incidents have hitherto befallen us, that would make a figure in the letter" and "I write these few lines in haste, to say that I am safe, and well advanced on my voyage." Both of these statements tell his sister that he is doing alright and progressing into the later part of his journey without any problematic situations occurring so far.

I have found a man who, before his spirit had been broken by misery, I should have been happy to have possessed as the brother of my heart.” As well as, “My affection for my guest increased every day. He excites at once my admiration and my pity to an astonishing degree.” The new emotions Robert shows in this letter prove how huge him finding this friend was to him being able to finally talk to someone that he feels he even relates to just a little bit. Robert had finally found a friend.

The name of this chapter should be "A Peculiar Family Unit." The narrator states his whole family throughout this chapter while describing them in great detail. Although they all seem to have peculiar details about them, their family seems to function perfectly together. The narrator stated, "Neither of us possessed the slightest pre-eminence over the other; the voice of command was never heard amongst us; mutual affection engaged us all to comply with and obey the slightest desire of each other." (Shelley 37) This quote sums up the fact that even though their family is made of some weird parts they seem to fit together similar to puzzle pieces. This shows the close connection I feel the characters will have in the remainder of the text.

The narrator is coming off telling how functional his life is yet he comes upon the sickness of his sister leading to the death of his mother. The text stated, "My mother was dead, but we still had duties we ought to perform..."(Shelley 40) The narrator does take this event very calmly realizing that daily tasks must still be done. This event I feel will put a tough layer of skin on both children throughout the story and make them very strong with future difficult tasks. When there is one bump, there are always bound to be more....

The narrator is coming off her newfound interest in natural philosophy in the previous chapter which leads to her "spark of life." The text read, "I was surprised that among so many men of genius, who had directed their inquiries towards the same science, but I alone should be reserved to discover so astonishing a secret."(Shelley 49) He is obviously grateful to be the one great mind to find out the steps of the secret to creating life. He actually becomes greatly ill from fear of the creature, and he will never seem to get over this irrational fear of something that he had created. He had stated, “I felt the bitterness of disappointment: dreams that had been my food and pleasant rest for so long a space, were now become a hell to me; and the change was so rapid, the overthrow so complete!”(Shelley 57) This quote alone shows the severity of the narrator’s situation with an ugly creation that she will not ever be able to get rid of...

Much worse, poor Justine who was just a little girl was convicted. Victor is very heartbroken by the end of this chapter due to what he believes is the false conviction since he thinks his minster committed the horrible murder. Victor feels so much guilt because he feels if he never made that creation, two people he loved would not have gone through misery. Victor stated, "I cannot pretend to describe what I then felt... but words cannot convey an idea of the heart-sickening despair that I then endured."(Shelley 92) These powerful statements show how Victor really does feel so bad for both the people he put into misery. He blames it all on himself.

The book stated, “The state of mind preyed upon my health... solitude was my only consolation— deep, dark, death-like solitude.”(Shelley 102) Victor is in so much pain that he cannot even bring himself to hang out with his family too much. The monster talks to him about how he could be a good daemon if Victor would just treat him with happiness as well as respect. The monster said if Victor listened well to him then he would not hurt anyone else that he loved. The daemon said, “Yet I ask you not to spare me: listen to me; and then, if you can, and if you will, destroy the work of your hands.”(Shelley 115) The monster believes he will convince Victor to trust what he says that he even says if Victor still has the same feelings afterwards then he can kill him. This is a big risk for both characters but both believe that their rewards are very much worth it.

The monster tells the beginning of his rough time of life after being left by Victor in the previous chapters. You can clearly see the longing he had to actually be a normal human but in reality, he was a horrid monster. These events most likely led to the angry murders and heart of the monster. He said, "The whole village was roused; some fled, some attacked me, until, grievously bruised by stones and many other kinds of missile weapons, I escaped to the open country."(Shelley 122) This shows the lack of opportunity the monster had to even become friends with the people. This shows a solid reason for anyone to be mad at the whole world and amount of people living on it.

He watches them everyday trying to be like them, trying to fit in. He said, "My spirits were elevated by the enchanting appearance of nature; the past was blotted from my memory, the present was tranquil, and the future gilded by bright rays of hope, and anticipations of joy."(Shelley 134) The monster treats the future as the brightest part of his life even since he met the poor family of cottagers. Another description said, “Felix seemed peculiarly happy.”(Shelley 137) Although this is a short statement it shows that even this woman can make a very rarely happy child joyful within a matter of a few seconds of being around her. The book stated, "Who can describe their horror and consternation on beholding me... and struck me violently with a stick..."(Shelley 160) The monster really thought he could easily get along with a family that cherished the simple things in daily life. He was filled with the anger of being completely alone and not being able to communicate normally to any human without them being scared of him. The monster said, “...you belong then to my enemy—to him towards whom I have sworn eternal revenge...”(Shelley 169) The monster takes out violence on a family member of Victor just to get back at him for leaving him alone.

The name of this chapter should be “The Fatal Deal.” Victor finally hears the last of the monster’s deal to him about making a female monster to make him happy and leave the rest of the humans alone. Victor keeps believing him for a few seconds and then becomes angered at the monster again. Victor, in the end, is left with two choices: accept the deal and have a chance to live or deny the deal and most likely everyone and himself dies. Either way Victor could face fatal affects. Victor stated, “These were wild and miserable thoughts... I listened to every blast of wind, as if it were a dull ugly siroc on its way to consume me.”(Shelley 178)

The name of this chapter should be “The Loophole.” Victor decides he needs to finally journey back to England with Clerval to begin his work to fulfill the promise made to the monster in previous chapters. Yet in doing this, Victor is protecting his family from any danger while putting himself in greater despair for now. This loophole causes him some relief knowing the monster said he would follow Victor and not harm his family. Victor said, “... would he not accompany me to England? This imagination was dreadful in itself, but soothing, inasmuch as it supposed the safety of my friends.”(Shelley 187) This shows the care Victor has for his family and friends as he would put himself in more danger in order to protect everyone he loves...

The name of this chapter should be “Distractions Connect to Depressions.” Victor is very focused in his travels around all of Europe continuously moving further north. Although he is temporarily amazed by the sights that he sees, he cannot prevent dark and horrid thoughts from entering his mind. An example of this was, “Sometimes I thought that the fiend followed me, and might expedite my remissness by murdering my companion.”(Shelley 198) This statement was made directly after considering how great what he was seeing was. Victor cannot get these thoughts relieved until he completes the deal to make a female for the wretched monster...

The name of this chapter should be “A Broken Promise to a Broken Soul.” Victor gets the willpower to go against the monster and destroys the progress of the female directly in front of the wretch. He obviously becomes furious at this action but Victor does not flinch at these threats for he is already set on his decision. Victor said, “I do break my promise, never will I create another like yourself, equal in deformity and wickedness.”(Shelley 206) This took a lot of guts for this decision which led to him boating to a random island that has left us hanging to see the horrid events he is saying are even worse than that of creating the monster...

The name of this chapter should be “A Deeper Wound.” Victor goes into the meeting with the magistrate in Ireland in the case of being blamed of a murder. It is revealed to him that the man murdered was Clerval, and this puts Victor into a state no human should ever go through. Although he has been depressed throughout the book, this is the death that pushed him over the edge. He stated, “Two I have already destroyed; other victims await their destiny: but you, Clerval, my friend, my benefactor.”(Shelley 218) This alone proves that this man was loved my Victor more than the previous deaths combined. Victor is literally heartbroken, but he eventually gets set free with his father to try and regain any happiness by returning to Geneva. He will get married and the monster swore he would attend the wedding as well...

The name of this chapter should be “The Wedding of Death.” Victor makes the wedding date official and moments of happiness are evident as well as the sadness of the known consequences for destroying the monster’s wife. Victor is oblivious to the fact that it might not actually be him who is murdered next, but his soon to be wife. This would make him basically dead himself after losing almost everyone he loves. This is a maniacal plan my The monster to try and prove to Victor that he will get his way eventually. Victor said, “... and as I touched the shore, I felt those cared and fears revive, which were soon to clasp me, and cling to me for ever.”(Shelley 239) Victor sees the evident death caused by this wedding. He wants to sacrifice himself for the protection of his family but in actuality he is walking right into a trap for the death of more of his loved ones...

The name of this chapter should be “The Last Straw.” Victor is expectantly awaiting his death from the monster when instead his lively wife is murdered. He obviously becomes angered and heartbroken and returns to Geneva with the news. His father goes cold and dies within the next few days after the news was told to him. Victor is boiling with more rage than ever before and all he seeks now is revenge. He cannot wait until he gets to end the life of his most wicked enemy that he himself created. So Victor goes to see the magistrate and is called mad or insane. Victor reacted, “I trembled with excess of agitation as I said this, there was a phrenzy in my manner, and something, I doubt not, of that haughty fierceness, which the martyrs of old are said to have possessed.”(Shelley 248) Victor is unexplainable angry, and he will not stop until he gets the monster dead in front of him.

The name of this chapter should be “The Passover.” Victor leaves Geneva to search for the evil wretch and continuously finds taunting clues leading to where the monster is until he meets Walton. He shares his story with him and tells him to continue what he is doing once he dies. Victor soon after passes away and the rest of the story is left with Walton. He discovers the monster weeping over the body of Victor explaining how he wants to die and hates the acts of evil he committed. The monster really cared for his creator and never wanted him dead. He really was just alone. Walton continues the legacy for Victor to make sure the monster does not harm anyone else and the monster goes into hiding to stay away and make sure he does not commit any more acts of evil. This ending to the story creates the thoughts of why make a story where everyone dies. It was made this way to prove that all things that seem evil end up with a vulnerable side to them.
