#99: Christiana Figueres - Sriram Kaluri

Name: Christiana Figueres.

Category: "Diplomat & Founding Partner, Global Optimism."

Brief explanation as to why she was chosen to be on this list: Climate change is at the corner of becoming irreversible, and it seems that pioneers trying to combat it are gradually becoming more prevalent in the influential ecosystem... and Figueres's inclusion in this list is proof of this. In fact, she was a valuable asset in bringing the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement to reality and understands that agreement (whether on a political or ideological level) will one day be the decisive factor. Her work has even made its way into the Earth Hall of Fame.

Biography:
Figueres was born in San José, Costa Rica in August of 1956. Graduating with a Master's Degree from the London School of Economics, she quickly approached climate change. Although her earlier works varied quite a bit, she climbed to government recognition by 1995 with contacts that'd become useful in the future. In that year, she "founded the Centre for Sustainable Development of the Americas," according to the United Nations Climate Change Convention. Moving to the early 2010s, this was when her career truly began. After she became the Executive Secretary of the convention, she called for many conferences between politicians and businesspeople. Her work between 2010 and 2014 paid off when the Paris Climate Agreement, one of her greatest contributions, was signed in 2015. Although her term ended in 2016, she went on to receive recognition from the governments of the Netherlands, Japan, Chile, and from the people worldwide. She lives with her two daughters and continues to inspire people, which may be her actual most important contribution to this communal goal.

Recent News:
https://www.hydrogenfuelnews.com/2050-earth-climate-change/8551464/
This recent news article presents Figueres's report about the changes Earth will observe over the next 28 years, provided that no change is made. It's interesting that this report contains information that is immediately prevalent to everyone, such as air quality (congestion, droughts, disease, and "watering eyes." These descriptions of our possible futures are... almost horrifying.
