Figueres was born in San José, Costa Rica in August of 1956. Graduating with a Master's Degree from the London School of Economics, she quickly approached climate change. In that year, she "founded the Centre for Sustainable Development of the Americas," according to the United Nations Climate Change Convention. Her work between 2010 and 2014 paid off when the Paris Climate Agreement, one of her greatest contributions, was signed in 2015. Although her term ended in 2016, she went on to receive recognition from the governments of the Netherlands, Japan, Chile, and from the people worldwide. She lives with her two daughters and continues to inspire people, which may be her actual most important contribution to this communal goal.
