The Haberman family includes, Andrea, Julie, Gordy and Kathy. Andrea Haberman grew up in a small town in Wisconsin called Farmington. On a warm and sunny afternoon Al Kolodzik proposed to Andrea. Andrea said yes and their planed wedding date was September 28, 2002. On September 10, 2001 Andrea flew out to New York for business. September 11 Andrea's boss had a meeting in the World Trade Center at 9 a.m. Andrea was asked to go early and set everything up for the meeting. No one knew that Andrea would get caught in a terrorist attack put together by Osama Bin Laden.

This terrorist group hijacked four planes on 9/11. Two of these airliners went into the World Trade Centers, One went into the tower Andrea was in. Approximately 3,000 people were killed in this attack, including Andrea. One plane crashed into a field and the fourth plane hit the Pentagon. The antagonist was the contributor to many conflicts. Osama Bin Laden was the leader of the Islamic group Al-Qaeda.

The theme of Just a Few Sleeps Away is the worst can bring everyone together. After the attack the Habermans were trying to do everything they could to get Andrea back. In the middle of the night a stranger called from New York and told Gordy that she is looking for Andrea. The strangers name is Jessica Kraemer. Jessica didn't even know Andrea, Jessica just heard about a girl all alone in New York and in the towers. Andrea was 25 and was born in a small town in Wisconsin but she was living in Chicago. The reader also learns about a little game Al and Andrea play every day. At 7 a.m. they have a chalenge to see who calls the other first on the phone. There is no prize just the sastification that you thought of the other first. Al and Andrea have an unique way of telling time when they are apart for a few days. They counted sleeps to make it sound like less. As of the morning of September 11 there was only one sleep left.

The timeline of the book does include many other years to show what the Haberman family was going through to find out everything that Andrea went through. Majority of the location in this book is in the World Trade centers in New York. But, some events in the book do happen in Gordy and Kathy's house in Farmington, Wisconsin.

Al's Mom called him at work and asked him which tower Andrea was in. Al didn't know, neither did anyone else. But, Al said he would find out so he called Andrea's cell phone. Andrea didn't answer any calls. Al decided to call Kathy (Andrea's Mom). Kathy thought Al was joking when he told her to turn on the news because a plane hit the World Trade center. The news then got video of the second plane hitting the second tower. All the newsmen could say was "oh my God" when they saw the second plane. Mike wrote this story in this way so he could jump from what Kathy was thinking on 9/11 and afterwards and what everyone in New York was like. I really like this book in third person point of view because at the same moment in time the author can tell the reader what everyone was going through. It was interesting how everyone perceived everything after the planes hit.
