Hello All. This is a new thing I am looking at trying. It's a message board. We can leave discussion ideas, or answers to posted questions or comments. This has to be a common ground place. Be respectful. The exchange of ideas is a wonderful thing. We should all feel free to express our thoughts. But this is not a place to criticize others for their different views. We can learn from our differences. I will be posting a point of discussion after the holiday, and I would like each of you to respond. Do do so, you just need to click the circle with the + sign to get a post window.

I think it depends on what you are charging for. If a Dr for example charges a lot for something that they have spent years and 100's of thousands of dollars to learn, I believe it is ok. If someone is charging a ton of money just because the market dictates it, I think that's wrong. We have athletes being paid millions a year just to entertain us. Someone who is saving our lives like a fireman, police office or some other service like this should be paid more than any athlete. People are always going to say "charge as much as someone is willing to pay". Just because someone is willing to pay it doesn't make it right.

I believe it's a case of whatever the market will bear. If you start charging too much for your services, you may lose business overall as no one can afford it. Others may start charging less for the same service in order to better compete with you. New people may also take up the job thinking it's a great money maker and giving you more competition as well.

I think it is always price gouging to over-charge for goods or services beyond what the market calls for. This happens a lot after disasters like hurricanes and tornados. Therefore, I also feel it is not ethical to price gouge for services even if the market will “bear it.” In the case of doctors, there needs to be some regulations because you can shop and get varying prices for services, some steep. The one I think needs to be regulated the most is prescription drug companies who charge outlandish prices for medicines long after they have made their money back on developing the medicine. Some lifesaving medicines are so expensive, patients are having to decide whether to eat or pay for their meds.

Now, if you want your services or products to be successful then better consider a fair price and take a look at the market. At the end, the customers hold all the power and they can break or make your business.

when charging what happens by the hour is a case of specialty. For example, a therapist for celebrities the cost will not be an expensive 20-30 hour it is 150 to 2000 a hour because of the situation, doctorate, and confidentiality. but when it comes to my choice has to the market right now because that will be one flat rate now.

But that is what is being done already.

I believe that in most cases you should be able to charge whatever you want. If you're prices are too high, then people can go else where. The exception would be some medical stuff. When people's lives are at risk, I believe that the company needs to make a profit, but should be respectful of the people that depend on it. I also believe here that if government got 100% out of healthcare and the free market could completely take over healthcare, then everything would get cheaper since health insurance companies would have to fight for our business. But that's an entirely different rant.
