There are several soft tissues that support and stabilize the shoulder, which include the rotator cuff and the shoulder labrum. These soft tissues can easily be injured due to overuse while participating in ‘throwing’ sports or with repeated overhead arm movements.

This would be better as a occupational rehab so if you have a life changing injury, you can gradually get used to this change. Gradual and progressive resistance exercises help rebuild muscle strength. Therapists may use resistance bands, weights, or other tools to provide controlled resistance during exercises. What this treatment would mainly treat would be weakness in the rotator cuff area, slowly building up the strength in it. As well as minimizing the pain slowly overtime once your shoulder starts getting used to it fully. A Physical Therapist would be the correct professional to go and see for these types of treatments.

This involves using electrical currents to stimulate muscle contractions which allows for muscle growth. This is beneficial for Rotator Cuff Injuries as muscle deterioration occurs from tears and old age the increase of muscle mass allows for more strength and stability inside the shoulder joint. For Functioning Electrical Stimulation (FES) you should have a licensed physiatrist or physical therapist to properly treat you.

They require to be moving in a constant overhead motion when possibly throwing, catching, or even shooting. This can lead to repetitive stress on the shoulder joints which can lead to tears in the rotator cuffs tendons. And some challenges athletes can have when caring for the injury are things like time constraint due to having a busy schedule with training as well as any competition they might be having.

Once people start to get older their rotator cuff may become more open to tears and other injuries due to degeneration as time goes further on. As well as the older we do get it'll cause changes in the density of the bones which can increase the risk even further in a rotator cuff injury. Some challenges elderly people may face when getting care for the injury is other underlying health conditions like diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Of course its good to push yourself and your limits but if its your first time doing it or first day back, take it slowly! This can cause overloading on your tendons as well as possible injury due to not letting your body adapt in time.

Challenges for the preventative measure can be someone not being patient enough with themselves or their body. They try and rush back into a routine or go way too hard on a first time work out regimen and injure themselves due to that.

Identify two different Technologies to help prevent Rotator Cuff Injuries(1 of 2)

The first piece of technology/safety device that can help prevent an injury like this is Resistance Bands with Monitoring. These are already commonly used in rehab with many other injuries and the rotator cuff, but if we were to integrate monitoring tech to this it can also help provide feedback on how strong or weak that specific area of injury is doing. As well as applying the right amount of force based on how the feed back is from the exercise. Now with positives there will always be negatives. Some negative aspects of something like using monitoring purely on resistance bands can be if the patient isn't trying their hardest on it or not using it to the fullest potential. If a patient decides to not do their best on it the feedback can not be as accurate as it could be as well as return false readings on the patient.

The first Public health measure that can be taken to help prevent a Rotator Cuff Injury is Education and Awareness programs. This alone can help prevent lots of these types of injuries just by making people aware that this is something that can happen to anyone whether they go to the gym or not! These types of programs can include techniques on how to avoid overuse or wrong movement of the rotator cuff. This type of program is meant for individuals that are athletes, active gym people, or athletes as well. A challenge of implementing this could be people not caring enough to watch the video, getting the media to advertise these programs which can cost money as well.

The second Public health measure that can be taken to help prevent a Rotator Cuff Injury is Workplace Ergonomics and Safety Guidelines. More work places can collaborate with public health to place safety guidelines or safety protocols to let workers be prepared to not do certain wrong movements Like proper lifting techniques for example. Some challenges that may be faced for trying to implement these types of things are limitations of resources, cultural and language barriers and accessibility.
