CCTV (closed-circuit television) is a TV system in which signals are not publicly distributed but are monitored for surveillance and security purposes. CCTV relies on strategic placement of cameras, and observation of the camera's input on monitors somewhere.

Once an image has been picked by the camera it is taken to the monitor and then recorded on video tape or DVR. The ability of the camera to zoom in and out is determined by the type of lens it has.

CCTV helps protects people’s homes/ businesses/ properties. All public services will use CCTV but for different reasons. For example policemen/ paramedics have CCTV on their car recording on call incidents. An example of when the Fire Service use CCTV when they are called to a fire they may use nearby cameras to see if they have evidence to how the fire was set etc.

X-ray wavelengths are shorter than those of UV rays and typically longer than those of gamma rays.
~

Detection of explosives has the flavor of those mathematical problems that are not invertible. It is easier to hide explosives than to find them. Many approaches have been proposed and executed for the remote detection of explosives, contraband materials, weapons of mass destruction, currency, etc. Most detection technologies suffer from a common problem: the features they look for, such as discontinuities in electrical conductivity, are not unique properties of the target but are contained, to some degree, in the more benign surroundings. Such a degeneracy leads to "clutter" in the response. For example, resolving the false alarms generated by this clutter can determine the rate of advance of a conventional electromagnetic metal detector employed as a landmine detector. One approach that provides a "unique" signature is nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) (the technique is also called QR, to avoid confusion with strictly nuclear techniques). This paper outlines the important physical principles behind the use of NQR for remote detection, indicates areas of applicability, and presents results of field trials of a prototype landmine detection system

The original document is scanned with a fax machine (or a telecopier), which processes the contents (text or images) as a single fixed graphic image, converting it into a bitmap, and then transmitting it through the telephone system in the form of audio-frequency tones. The receiving fax machine interprets the tones and reconstructs the image, printing a paper copy.[1] Early systems used direct conversions of image darkness to audio tone in a continuous or analog manner. Since the 1980s, most machines modulate the transmitted audio frequencies using a digital representation of the page which is compressed to quickly transmit areas which are all-white or all-black.

•What is it? An X-ray machine is a device that produces X-rays. It is commonly used in a variety of applications including medicine, fluorescence, electronic assembly inspection, and measurement of material thickness in manufacturing operations. In medical applications, X-ray generators are used by radiographers to acquire x-ray images of the internal structures (e.g., bones) of living organisms, and also in sterilization.

•How does it work? An X-ray machine generally contains an X-ray tube to produce the X-rays. The heart of an X-ray machine is an electrode pair, a cathode and an anode, that sits inside a glass vacuum tube. The cathode is a heated filament, like you might find in an older fluorescent lamp. The machine passes current through the filament, heating it up. The heat sputters electrons off of the filament surface. The positively-charged anode, a flat disc made of tungsten, draws the electrons across the tube.

•How can it be used? X-rays are recorded on film or recorded digitally. A radiologist, who is a physician with specialized training in X-ray and other imaging tests, will analyze and interpret the results of your X-ray and then send a report to your personal physician.

•Advantages?

– X-ray exam is fast and easy and the equipment used is relatively inexpensive and widely available.

•Disadvantages? – Women should inform their doctor if they are or may be pregnant or nursing prior to any radiological imaging. Your doctor may recommend another type of test to reduce the possible risk of exposing your baby to radiation. Also there is a rare risk of a major allergic reaction to the contrast agent.

•YouTube link?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9Mi8tqGQlo

An X-ray machine produces a controlled beam of radiation, which is used to create an image of the inside of your body. This beam is directed at the area being examined. After passing through the body, the beam falls on a piece of film or a special plate where it casts a type of shadow. Different tissues in the body block or absorb the radiation differently. Dense tissue, such as bone, blocks most of the radiation and appears white on the film. Soft tissue, such as muscle, blocks less radiation and appears darker on the film. Often multiple images are taken from different angles so a more complete view of the area is available. The images obtained during X-ray exams may be viewed on film or put through a process called “digitizing” so that they can be viewed on a computer screen.

Sometimes an X-ray exam includes contrast. For a contrast study, you will receive a drug called a contrast agent, which will highlight or contrast parts of the body so they show more clearly on the X-ray image.

Example of Uses: X-ray exams can be used to view, monitor, or diagnose

bone fractures

joint injuries and infections

artery blockages

abdominal pain

•What is it? A PASS device (Personal Alert Safety System) also known as a ADSU (Automatic Distress Signal Unit), is a personal safety device used primarily by firefighters entering a hazardous environment such as a burning building.

•How does it work? The PASS device sounds a loud audible alert to notify others in the area that the firefighter is in distress. Older models required the wearer to manually signal a distress, whereas modern units retain a manual alarm but also monitor the wearer’s motion via a ball bearing or accelerometer that triggers an alert should the wearer be inactive for a preset amount of time.

•How can it be used? It can be activated manually by the firefighter, or activates automatically if the firefighter stops moving.

•Advantages? Allows firefighters to not have to rely and shouting and waste their oxygen when they are in smoke.

•Disadvantages? Could not work correctly or be faulty.

•Youtube link? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCb68u3LmyE
