In age 3, the children learn some conflict resolution. Although they don't have a firm grasp of it yet, they don't just resort to crying and yelling. The child's imagination starts to expand leading to more imaginative play or fantasy play. On the other side of the coin, the children often cannot distinguish between fantasy and reality. In whatever type of play they are a part of, they understand turn taking and often want to explore new and unknown activities.

At the age of 4, children start to pick a "best friend" as well as cooperate more during play. They often are able to know the difference between reality and make believe. Children start to stray away from hitting when they are angry and lean more towards expressing that anger in a verbal manner.
