1. What are some important skills that you learned in class this semester and what assignments/activities helped you to develop those skills? Identify at least two skills 2. Post one or two pieces of advice that you would pass on to a future HIST 105 student. Think about strategies for success that you employed in the class. If you had it all to do over, what would you do differently?

TJ, Matias, Yaroth

Critical thinking skills, time management skills and analyzing sources.

The weekly source annotations helped when it came to critical thinking and analyzing sources due to consistently having to complete read and annotate sources. As for time management we had plenty of weeks to complete each LRA before it was due and so we knew what was coming up after each LRA. Some pieces of advice we'd recommend would be actually going to take notes of lectures or at least listening in class, so you have an idea of what's going on in each unit and utilizing office hours if any extra help is needed. If we had to do it all over again, we'd focus on not procrastinating and going to class.

Some of the most important skills we learned were creating annotations that were thoughtful and meaningful. In addition to this, learning how to correctly analyse the sources we were reading throughout each source annotation assignment. To help make these thoughtful annotations, go through the document, making annotations for yourself, so that you can go back and have a good idea of what you can write about.

One big thing is getting started on assignments early; a lot of preparation goes into your final project, so making sure you get a head start can save you so much time. Additionally, asking more questions will benefit you greatly as you are researching a topic that is more niche, so understanding it better will help you later on. Overall, going to class, asking questions, and completing the assignments on time will guarantee that you are successful in this class.

1. We learned where to find credible sources. We also learned the significance and difference between primary secondary sources. The perusal discussing primary and secondary sources really helped develop that understanding and identifying those resources. Another thing was learning how to put footnotes which we did in LRA4 and our Unit 3 Reflection which is very beneficial for future essays and writing assignments.

Submit your assignments on time. Submit what you have you can make revisions later after meeting with the professor. Go to office hours, you receive great advice and feedback and get approval for revising assignments. Don't procrastinate, the assignments are manageable so get it done as soon as possible. It gives you more time for revisions and improving your research.

Some important skills that we've learned in class this semester are finding and analyzing sources. Espcially with diffrienciating between primary and secondary sources. The Perusall assignments were the most helpful because we had to annotate, which forced us to read critically.

Advice for future HIST 105 students is to GO TO CLASS! It is so much easier to stay on track when you are aware of what is going on in class. Also, attend office hours and ask for help. The professor is really kind and always willing to help as long as you ask. What we'd do diffrently is to NOT PROCRASTINATE THE LRAS!!!!

One important skill I learned this semester is how to do proper research on general topics and turn that information into a clear explanation. At the beginning, I struggled with finding reliable sources, but through the LRA assignments and the library workshops, I learned how to search for better sources and understand them more deeply. Another important skill I developed was how to correctly cite sources using Chicago style. Doing multiple LRAs helped me practice this, and I became more comfortable with both full and abbreviated footnotes over time.

Then, class activities like group discussions also helped me understand different perspectives and improve how I explain my ideas.

If I were to give advice to a future HIST 105 students, I would say to start assignments early, especially the LRAs, because they take more time than expected. I would also recommend asking questions and using the feedback from instructors, since it really helps improve your work. If I could do this class again, I would manage my time better and not wait until the last minute to start assignments, so I could improve my work even more.

I got better at writing about topics unrelated to my major. One skill I developed is understanding and completing assignments very quickly while still getting them in on time. Another skill I gained is better patience. One piece of advice Id give is to show up 5mins early to get a good seat near the exit. If I had to do it all over again, I would make sure to have a friend in the class make sure I maintain perfect attendance, by motivating me to come to class.

LRA assignment were also really helpful for time management, finding relevant sources, and building on research over time.

Our first piece of advice is to do your work on time. Especially the LRA assignments are not short, and are imperative to do on time. He is very understanding, so do not take advantage of that. Dr. Dodson is always willing to help one on one in office hours as well. Also, talking to new people, and sitting near the same people (you should be able to vibe with them) can help start friendships.

DON'T PROCRASTINATE. Also make sure you research something YOU are interested in!
