Malaysia is one of the most well-known Southeast Asian countries, not just for their culture but as one of the best tourist destinations in the region. One of the biggest factors that keep this multi-cultural country together is the fact that its people have a shared love for sports. Malaysians love sports. They play various types of sports badminton, bowling, field hockey, tennis, squash, golf, horse riding, sailing, martial arts and skate boarding. But when it comes to sports, one sport in particular has a somewhat universal appeal for Malaysians and that is football.

Football arrived in Malaysia, (Malaya at that time) with the British. The locals soon picked up the game, and before long it was the country's leading sport. Towards the end of the 19th century, football was one of the central pillars of most sports clubs in Malaya. But it was not structured. Even when the Selangor Amateur Football League took shape in 1905 – which ensured proper administration and organisation – the competition was confined only to clubs in the Kuala Lumpur.[8][9]
</sup>

The earliest known winners of football competition in Malaysia was in Penang which won by YMCA in 1906.[10]
</sup>

In January 1921, the British Royal Navy battleship H.

1. Fitness Benefits
Although football is an impact sport and there is a small risk of injury, the benefits to your fitness far outweigh this. The 90 minutes of exercise is great for your cardiovascular health and helps to avoid illnesses and diseases.

2. Increase in Muscle and Bone Strength
Playing football each week can lead to fat loss and increase muscle toning. It is also said that football can help strengthen your bones. It all sounds great, right? The more football you take part in, the better you will become at the game and the more strength you will gain.

3. Coordination
Focusing on the ball, weaving around other players and intercepting the ball requires a certain amount of coordination. The more you play the more coordinated you will become. You will find yourself thinking faster and making better decisions as to which way you need to go in order to play the ball correctly and win the game.

4. Stamina
A full match of football is 90 minutes long. Although you get a short break at half time, that is a long time to spend running up and down a pitch. Your stamina will improve week on week and you will love how much more persistent you can become with your body when it comes to

5. New Skills
Football is a wonderful hobby that you can play almost anywhere! You will pick up so many skills along the way. The more you play, the more your crosses and Cruyff turns will come along; you and your skills will be the envy of the pitch!

6. The Social Aspect
Playing a team sport is a fantastic way to meet new people and make new friends. If you have just moved somewhere new or want to become more involved with your local community, joining the local football club is a fantastic way to socialise with others and get to know people in your area. Mental Health Benefits
Exercise not only helps your physical health, but it also has a great impact on your mental health. When you exercise, your body releases endorphins which triggers a positive feeling. Team Building
Once you understand how your fellow players work and how they play, you can get a fantastic rhythm going which can really tip the scales in your favour of winning the game. Some players like to take chances for their own selfish reasons, but once they accept that the game will work more smoothly if they work closely with other players, the team will click and every game will be great fun to play!
