The average beak length in 1976 was around 10.7 millimeters and the depth was around 9.7 millimeters. In 1978 the average beak length was 11.6 millimeters and the average depth was 10.6. Although there was a bit of an increase in beak sizes between the years, other characteristics of the bird stayed very similar. Since the drought didn't affect the wing size, the average wing size in 1976 was 65 millimeters and the average wing size in 1978 was around 65.5 millimeters. This data was found in the Lab 18 Finch Data sheet.

The majority of the Medium Ground Finches with small beaks died out because they couldn't eat their food. It was no longer growing due to the drought. This means that the big-beaked finches reproduced more than the few small-beaked birds left. This is why there are more big-beaked Medium Ground Finches than small beaked Medium Ground Finches on Daphne Major.
