Closing the Hunger gap
A: The purpose of this article was to inform the audience about all of the children that have to go hungry in the summer. When they are provided all of their main meals from their schools, life becomes way harder for them when it ends.
B: The tone of this article was sad because the topic was, but it provided hope for anyone that who may be in a situation like the ones they were talking about. They mentioned all of the local sites that will be giving people chances to get food, and it could really make a difference.
C: Even though the article is focused on a sad topic, it would fall under the logos category. They statistically gave information about the problem and addressed the ways that we could fix them. They used specific percentages and numbers to show the reader that they did their research.
D: The hopeful/ kind of sad tone gave reasoning for all the hard work they put into their research to fix the problem. The sad situation was the driving force behind all of the solutions that communities are making for people living in poverty. They then made the article to hopefully have more people realizing how drastic the problem is and hoping that more people are willing to help out.

Who is getting Suspended and Where?
A: The purpose is to inform the audience about the high amount of kids getting suspended in schools.
B: Negative connotation is being used. There are a lot of kids getting suspended in a school year, and sometimes it even has to do with race. They stress the situation and how bad it is.
C: Ethos is being used because they are using research and graphs to get the audience to understand the number of kids getting suspended.
D: The negative connotation led to the graphs of proving how serious the problem actually is and if there are ways that it could possibly be fixed, or what is causing it. They want to inform people of this problem so they're aware of how strict some of these schools are getting.

Schools Becoming the "Last Frontier" for Hungry Kids
Personal reaction: It's really sad to hear about how the number of kids living in poverty is increasing, but I'm glad to know that schools are doing something about it. Offering cheaper/free meals to the kids that can't afford their own food can make a huge difference. Some schools are also offering dinner and it helps them a lot because it gives these kids a safe place to eat. They don't have to wonder where their next meal will be, and it gives these families hope.

Does Suspending Students Work?Personal reaction: I agree when the article talks about how suspension does more harm than good. When you go your whole school life trying to avoid getting suspended and then it happens for something stupid, I can see why kids would begin to not care anymore. They might even realize it's not that bad being out of school while your friends still are. Taking them out of school could make the problem worse because taking them out of school gives them more opportunities for them to do something bad.

Claim: Far too many states don't do anything about the LGBTQ discrimination that happens in schools.
Support: The GLSEN is doing what they can to decrease the number of states who still haven't passed the laws that keep kids from getting discriminated in school. They do a lot of research on the matter and figure out ways to avoid this kind of bullying.
Evidence: They used many graphs while explaining what they meant so that the reader could also understand.

A: The people writing the article believe that the more people comfortable with themselves and are whoever they want to be, the better place the world will become. They want to inform people that you can do whatever you want with your body, and there shouldn't be a problem with what makes you happy.
B: The tone of this article is inspiring because it lets people who are questioning their gender identity know that they are not alone. By telling them that famous singers may be just like them, it could give them hope and teach them to just be themselves.
C: This article is mostly pathos because even though it does give some of the data they've collected over the years, it is very inspirational and can really be taken to heart by a lot of people. "Some youth find it safer to come out and talk about gender exploration". This article is very encouraging and the reader will take it more seriously knowing how many people are touched by the subject of people happy in your own skin.
D: The inspiring tone can make people happy just by knowing how much our country has accomplished. It feels like a giant step forward knowing that more and more kids are feeling comfortable with themselves and it can lead to a better future. It holds a lot of information that can really make a difference.

18 Historic Moments in the fight for LGBTQ Equality
Personal reaction: I am very happy with all the progress that has been made for the LGBTQ+ community. There's nothing that aggravates me more than when a country that claims to give their citizens free rights still discriminates against certain groups of people. No one should feel like an outcast for the way they were born, and I don't think that doing what makes you the happiest should be limited by what the government thinks is best. We've already come such a long way, and I can't wait for the day that all this pointless discrimination comes to an end.
