Explanation: Party Invitation

For my genre #3, I chose to do a party invitation because it just felt right to do. As we all know Gatsby throws these huge extravagant parties that almost everyone went to. We can see text evidence in the book when it states, "I spent my Saturday nights in New York because those gleaming, dazzling parties of his were with me so vividly that I could still hear the music and the laughter, faint and incessant, from his garden, and the cars going up and down the drive" (Fitzgerald 108). When creating this invitation I made it very simple yet classy. I decided to do it that way because people love it when items are simple, it's easy to read and follow along. There is also an alcohol drawing in the corner, I did this because there was always alcohol at these parties. Since it was the 20's prohibition was a law meaning alcohol was illegal. Knowing this information, even more people would come to these parties with alcohol being in the picture.

Explanation: Scrapbook

For my genre #5, I chose to do a scrapbook of the lost love between Daisy and Gatsby. Throughout the book, their relationship was a beautiful one even though it ended. There was always chemistry between the two, so I tried to create that in this scrapbook. I named it the "Lost Love" because their chemistry never truly ended, it was more of a right person wrong time situation. We can see this when Daisy says, "There must have been moments even that afternoon when Daisy tumbled short of his dreams--not through her fault but because of the colossal vitality of his illusion" (Fitzgeralds 76). This shows that they never really stopped thinking about each other. We can see this through Gatsby's eyes when Jordan says, "I think he half expected her to wander into one of his parties, some night,' went on Jordan" (Fitzgeralds 63). I tried to show this through the pictures I chose of the two. I chose this genre because looking back at the time this book took place, it would be more than likely people had scrapbooks. And since Daisy and Gatsby are no longer a couple, the "Lost Love" scrapbook would be in some memory box.

For my genre #4, I chose to do a map of where East and West Egg are located. I felt that throughout the book these two places had a big part with the story. East and West Egg are two sections off the state of New York. In the book we find text evidence when it says, "Twenty miles from the city a pair of enormous eggs, identical in contour and separated only by a courtesy bay, jut out into the most domesticated body of salt water in the Western hemisphere, the great wet barnyard of Long Island Sound" (Fitzgerald 5). Knowing this key information, I drew a close up of the eggs and a bit of New York. In the book we learn that West Egg is the place were newly rich people lived. When reading this book we find that Jay Gatsby lives here and Nick Carroway. East Egg was the place of "old money" meaning money was passed down from generations. Knowing this information this helps the story be told through the ups and downs of the Great Gatsby.

For my genre #2, I chose to do music playlists for Daisy and Gatsby. I chose five songs per playlist to describe the personalities of the characters. In Daisys I put some ego songs since she always wants to be number one. I also added some songs about being rich since Daisy craved money. For Gatsby, the five songs I picked were some for his wicked parties. We know he had extravagant parties because the book says "There was dancing now on the canvas in the garden, old men pushing young girls backward in eternal graceless circles, superior couples holding each other tortuously, fashionably and keeping in the corners—and a great number of single girls dancing individualistically or relieving the orchestra for a moment of the burden of the banjo or the traps. By midnight the hilarity had increased. (Fitzgerald 35)." With this evidence, we as readers can infer that the songs were very hype and fun. Therefore, Gatsby's playlist is a chunk of his party hits.

Book Review

The Great Gatsby, a book almost everyone is familiar with. I am one of those readers familiar with it since its a school required book. While reading this book full of drama, I felt as it was a decent book. I am a student who absolutely hates reading, and I have to say some parts of the books was fantastic. I'd hate to spoil a book so if you like books full of the unexpected you need to read the Great Gatsby. Even though the book had me on my toes, there were definitely some boring parts and chapters. You also have to pay attention to detail because Fitzgerald hides some key information through out the book. And he hides it so well you can miss it, and as someone who doesn't read very well, I found this a bit difficult to follow along. Overall, after reading this book I give it a solid 8/10.
