I was born in Iowa City and lived in different parts of Eastern Iowa until elementary school. I go back often to visit family. Iowa City is located on the land of the Báxoǰe (Bah Kho-je) or Ioway, Sauk (Sac), and Meskwaki (Fox) peoples.

My family and I lived here for a year (2017-2018) while I worked with the Women Photographers Collective to help produce the trilingual photo-essay project called Xanbiletik. This project involved working with Indigenous Peoples in the area. I worked with Chamulans who speak Tzotzil, the second largest indigenous group in Mexico. Tzeltal speakers are also in Chiapas state along with many other Indigenous groups. We all have fond memories of living in San Cris and want to return very soon! Our apartment was to the right of the Arco del Carmen in this photo so it was always easy to find our way home.

I attended UNC Chapel Hill after growing up in Charlotte, NC. Go Heels! Beat Dook! Chapel Hill is located on ancestral land belonging to the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, Catawba, Saponi, and Occaneechi Peoples. Here is a photo of the American Indian Center at UNC Chapel Hill founded in 2006.

Boone, NC is the place where I found the true strength inside of me. I transferred back to Boone after leaving my first semester. During that first semester, I went through so much emotional change. This made me realize how strong I am and how important it is to find a community of support to have you walk through those tough times. Now I am back in Boone with an open mind for all the adventures that are to come. I am thankful for the past year Ive had in Boone. The good and bad are greatly appreciated and have changed me in many ways.

Home. My comfort spot. My community. Everything about home makes me feel so relaxed and full of joy. I love the people in my small town and I am so thankful for the last 20 years living there. I have had so much growth physically and mentally here.

I get a breath of fresh air every time I am in Charleston. This town makes me so happy. The vibe, people, building, beach nearby. The big city feels with the southern hospitality. I love everything about Charleston and hope to live here one day.
