This book takes place in the future, 2049 to be exact. It is written as a diary from the perspective of Tania Deeley. Nobody can have children physically. So they are replaced with robots called teknoids made by the Oxted company. These robots grow and look like real humans but once they turn 18 they have to be returned to the oxted company Nobody knows why people can't be born anymore, that’s just the way it is. Nobody can differentiate between a robot or a real human. Tania Deeley is the main character. She thought she was a real human until an incident happened and she found out she wasn’t. She tells the story of her life from age 11-18. When she found out she wasn’t human, she began to question who was real or not and this curiosity lead her into a new controversial world.

I loved this book. At first I was little confused about the message and concept but as I continued to read I became more and more intrigued. The fact that this book took place in the future and it was about the extinction of humanity was really creative and interesting. The part that was most interesting to me was when the girls who bullied Tania about being a robot, found out they were robots. This really showed character and how we should never judge anyone because it can happen to us too. There were many relatable scenes in the book but the one I related to the most was when Sian, Tania's best friend, "died" and was sent back to the Oxted Company. I lost one of my best friends and I know how painful it is to not have someone to talk to anymore.

"And if you’re just a boring old historian, or some kind of slimy-tentacled alien archaeologist called Zog from the Andromeda galaxy trying to find out who on earth I am and what human beings were…" Pg.9

The book was told in diary form by Tania Deeley. Instead of saying the typical "Dear Diary", she wrote to Mr.Zog. Mr.Zog is an imaginary character that she made up. I felt like this is a representation of her character. Clever and Silly.

"What you have to remember, Miss Deeley, is that the universe is trying to kill you, all the time. It doesn’t try very hard, usually, but it doesn’t have to, because stupid people are easy to kill. They let their guard down, and blam! Score one for the universe. " Pg. 231

I felt like this part of the book was very interesting because it came from the perspective of Mr.Zog. He was giving her advise and incite on what people's actual intentions are.

"After millennia of existence, we face the challenge of what to do that is new. some choose Erasure, to whatever degree seems appropriate. That has always been my choice, so far, to erase tired memories and reenter life, fresh and naive. Others choose danger, undertaking dangerous quests or seeking ever more spectacular thrills, to rediscover purpose or to excite their jaded personalities. Sooner or later this group merges with the third group, whether deliberately or accidentally. The third group chooses suicide." Pg.317

I thought this quote was very interesting. It is basically explaining the different people in life. The fact that this quote is exactly how the real world is , is very disturbing.

I recommend this book to anybody who loves science fiction or dystopian books. I think that anyone who just loves reading in general would love this book also. The events in the book make you very curious and intrigued to keep reading. When you are done the book you will be questioning some things in life such as character and what "being human'' really is. If you are still thinking after you finished reading the book then you know its a good book

Other Side by August Alsina

Tania's best friend, Sian got into a really bad accident where she couldn't even be repaired and had to be returned to the Oxted Company .Tania was really sad and depressed about it. In the song he talks about how he will miss his brother and he wants him to save room for him on the "other side" which is heaven in this case but it would be the Oxted company in Tania's case.
