YMCA of greater Erie offers 5 locations around the city which grants its members access to commercial gym equipment (cardio, free weights and dumbbells, resistance machines, etc.), group classes and personal training. The YMCA of greater Erie is also a way for members to get connected with community offerings, events and support.

YMCA offers financial assistance for those individuals and families in need of support. Financial assistance is offered by a case by case basis, requiring applicants to show proof of need.

The YMCA also offers childcare services and summer events for the youth.

They do 30min sessions where they counsel individuals or families on shopping healthy foods and making good food choices that are realistic and family friendly. At the end of the 30min session the individual or family leaves with fresh fruit and vegetables, enough to last 2-3 days.

MEILA is an academy that was established in 2019, MELIA and intended as an after school and weekend enrichment program for students at Northwestern and Springfield Elementary.  The program serves students from K-2 and provides activities in STEM, ELA, movement, and more! MELIA is also responsible for establishing the Rising K preschool programs at Northwestern and Springfield Elementary.

Enrollment:

• Age 18 or older

• Receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits

• Eligibility for benefits is determined by the Erie County Assistance Office (ECAO), and a referral to the Work Ready Program is required.

Upward Bound Program helps offer assistance to students giving them access to free tutoring, standardized test prep (SAT/ACT), test waivers, college application guidance, etc.

There are three primary criteria for Upward Bound eligibility:

1. Grades 9-12

2. Attend one of the participating schools

3. Parents did not graduate college and/or family income is within 150% of federal poverty guidelines

GECAC will make payments to legitimate landlords on your behalf for rent costs (rent, security deposits, etc)

Regular fare = $1.65 a ride

Reduced fare program = $0.80 a ride (any individual with a Medicare card or with proof of financial assistance)
