The war in Ukraine is between the Russians and Ukrainians. Since the cold war and the removal of the Soviet Union and the loss of Soviet territory Russia has continued to keep "the old Soviet feel." When Ukraine was thinking about joining Nato (a group with most of Russia's enemies) they were not on board. Russia's fear of Ukraine being independent they invaded on February 24th, 2022. The Russian military used other countries to move troops and attack Ukraine on multiple fronts such as Belarus and Crimea. One true example of Putin and his view on the war is his saying, "We will not give up what is ours"(Global News, 2023). Russia, a much more advanced and developed military is surprised by the determination of Ukraine to survive. However, it is not just Ukraine on its own but also many of the Nato members that are giving money and weapons to Ukraine to protect the rest of Europe.

What is the United States doing?

The United States as mentioned previously is giving lots of financial aid and military weapon support to Ukraine but recently stopped. Multiple sources compare this war to something that would occur in the Cold War as a proxy conflict. Multiple people witness the stalemate in the Ukraineian war and the failed offensive and question if we should spend more money on Ukriane. Some of the startling amounts the citizens see is the "more than $75 billion in assistance to Ukraine, which includes humanitarian, financial, and military support" (cfr, n.d.). I personally agree with most of the citizens of the United States and that we should hold off on the spending on Ukraine. We have continued to seen more money get spent to see it essentially get ruined. We have problems at home that 75 billion dollars can go to and if anything we could use that on our horrible national debt.

Why should we know about the war?

Its always to be aware and educated on why you are working and where the money you are taxed is going. Also being aware of what's going on helps you make the correct decision when electing state and government officials. I feel the war will likely be another endless war and would likely split Ukraine with the massive stalemate going down as we speak. I don't think the USA will send troops to Ukraine to fight the Russians but could be possible as the war still developes.

This cartoon shows the economic impact of the war in Ukraine on the Russian economy. The fact that they are out of tanks says one thing but the lack of man power needing to send out an old lady. Also many might not see the American made rifle shes holding showing that Russia isn't making their own weapons but getting them off dead soldiers.
