I believe that social structure is the most important because it created a baseline for different to adapt as their social hierarchies developed. It also provided common understanding, community, purpose and security for all of their members. Another reason is because it determined the daily lives of Mesopotamian and Egyptian people.

According to the Mesopotamia Social Structure article, "The upper class in the Mesopotamia class system comprised several different ranked groups. The king and his family, made up of the royal class, were at the top. They had the most privileges of all the classes in Mesopotamian society. Mesopotamian's worshiped many different gods, and the king was judged based on the expansion of his empire. The king was thought to liaise between the divine and earthly worlds. The king oversaw the military to expand his empire, created laws, and handed down punishments to law breakers and other administrative duties." this stood out to me because it shows that the many different classes in Mesopotamia and based on where they are ranked the better and worse they are treated.

According to the social structure article, "Back when they were a full functioning civilization, they had classifications for people. The highest was the king because he ruled all the people. The second highest were the scribes because they worked for the king, writing and recording events. The merchants were third highest because they traded or sold and bought goods for their civilization."
