- When the jet plane flies over the Small Community square Jonas has to hide in a house by himself while his parents were at work and his sister was at school. 
Chapter two: Jonas's father and mother give Jonas advice about the ceremony of twelves.
Chapter three: The family has to watch and care for the new member of their family, Gabe. 
Chapter four: Jonas works at in the House of old and helps bathe old people.
Chapter five: Early in the morning the family talks about their dreams and Jonas explained that he usually doesn't have dreams but last night he did. Jonas's dream was that he has a crush on his friend Fiona, and it made him happy. 
Chapter six: There is a ceremony for all the ages and Jonas patiently waits for his turn. He is scared that the Elders will make the wrong decision and he will get a job he doesn't want.

Jonas is still getting ready for his ceremony of twelves. Jonas"s dad is giving him the old " I remember when i was your age" talk and preparing him for the ceremony.

Jonas is starting to realize that he is different then the other people in his community and it is making him feel uncomfortable.

Jonas looks for Asher so they can do their volunteer hours.

chapter 5

Jonas and his family go through another ritual about telling their dreams. Jonas almost never remembers his dreams but he remembers his most recent one.
