They when combined form compounds.
Hydroxides are alkalis. Anything under pH is acidic and anything above pH is alkalis.however, we need to see if they are non-metals,  then they will be acids. Let's take an example for sodium hydroxides,  which after reaction, has a crystalline look and is solid. At room temperature, the hydroxides are odourless solids. It is also highly soluble in water.
