This article is about the search of a vehicle that did not follow the standards of the Charter. During a cocaine trafficking case a police officer came upon a vehicle that followed the speed limit but did not have a front licence plate. Upon asking for the drivers licence which the driver could not find, the officer did computer search which found the licence to be suspended and then arrested the driver. The officer then conducted an illegal search of the vehicle to find the physical licence but instead found 35 kilograms of cocaine. Though relevant to the trafficking case, this evidence was obtained in violation of the Charter and thus was dismissed.
