Student Instructions: Today we are going to make some beautiful hand prints using paint! We are going to use the color wheel to help us choose our colors.

What is the color wheel? The color wheel shows us how different colors are related to each other. The three main colors are red, blue, and yellow. These are called the primary colors. When we mix two primary colors, we get the secondary colors - orange, green, and purple.

For our hand prints, we are going to use primary and secondary colors from the color wheel. Here are the steps:

Wash your hands and dry them completely. This will help the paint stick well.

Choose 2-3 colors from the color wheel that you want to use. You can pick primary colors like red, blue, and yellow. Or you can pick secondary colors like orange, green, and purple.

Carefully pour a small amount of each color paint into separate trays or plates.

Gently press your hand into one color of paint, making sure to get paint on all parts of your hand.

Carefully press your painted hand onto the paper, making a handprint. Press down gently so all parts of your hand make an imprint.

Repeat with your other hand, using a different color of paint.

You can layer different color handprints on top of each other to create new color combinations.

Let your handprint paintings dry completely before displaying them.

Have fun exploring the color wheel and making your beautiful handprint artworks!

Teacher Lesson Plan: Handprint Paintings Using the Color Wheel

Objective: Students will create handprint paintings using primary and secondary colors from the color wheel.

Materials Needed:

Paint in primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and secondary colors (orange, green, purple)

Trays or plates for paint

White paper or cardstock

Paper towels or wet wipes for cleaning hands

Introduction (5-10 mins):

Begin by introducing the color wheel to the class. Explain the three primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and how mixing two primary colors creates the secondary colors (orange, green, purple).

Discuss how artists and designers use the color wheel to choose color combinations.

Tell the students they will be using the color wheel to create handprint paintings today.

Demonstration (5-10 mins):

Model the steps for making the handprint paintings:

Wash and dry hands thoroughly

Choose 2-3 colors from the color wheel

Pour small amounts of paint into trays

Gently press hand into paint, covering entire hand

Carefully press painted hand onto paper to make a handprint

Repeat with other hand using a different color

Activity (20-30 mins):

Invite students to choose their paint colors and begin creating their handprint paintings.

Encourage them to experiment with layering different color handprints.

Provide assistance as needed, reminding them to wash and dry hands between color changes.

Wrap-Up (5-10 mins):

Have students share their completed artworks and describe the color combinations they used.

Reinforce the concepts of the color wheel and how artists use it for creative expression.

Display the handprint paintings in the classroom.

Student Instructions:Welcome to our ice cream stand! Today, we are going to have so much fun pretending to be ice cream shop owners and customers.

First, let’s decide who will be the ice cream shop owner and who will be the customer. You can take turns being both!

The ice cream shop owner can stand behind the counter with different flavors of pretend ice cream (you can use colored paper or plasticine) and some cones or bowls.

The customer can come up to the counter and practice ordering their favorite flavor of pretend ice cream by saying “May I please have a scoop of chocolate/vanilla/strawberry/etc., in a cone/bowl?”

The shop owner should then pretend to scoop out the requested flavor onto a cone or into a bowl and serve it to the customer with a big smile!

After each turn, you can switch roles so that everyone has a chance to play both the shop owner and the customer.

Remember, when you’re playing as the customer, try using polite words like “please” and “thank you,” just like you would at a real ice cream store.

Have fun taking turns practicing ordering and serving different flavors of pretend ice cream! And don’t forget to use your imagination – maybe even create some special new flavors together!

When it’s time to finish playing, make sure everything is put away neatly for next time.

Teacher Instructions:1.Set up a designated area in the classroom for the ice cream stand dramatic play activity. Include a counter space (a table or desk works well), pretend ice cream flavors (colored paper or plasticine scoops), cones or bowls, and any additional props like play money or aprons.

Introduce the activity to the students by explaining that they will be taking turns playing as both the ice cream shop owner and customer, practicing ordering and serving different flavors of pretend ice cream.

Assign roles to pairs of students initially to ensure everyone gets a chance to participate in both roles.

Encourage students to use polite language when ordering and serving, such as “May I please have…” and “Thank you.”

Monitor the interactions between students during playtime, providing guidance on turn-taking, sharing, and using kind words with each other.

Offer prompts or suggestions for imaginative play, such as creating special new flavors together or coming up with creative ways to serve the ice cream.

Observe how each student engages with the activity – note their communication skills, creativity in role-playing, and ability to follow instructions.

After some time has passed, gather all students together for a brief discussion about their experience at the ice cream stand. Ask them what they enjoyed most about playing these roles and encourage them to share any new ideas they came up with during playtime.

Conclude the activity by having students help clean up the materials used in an organized manner so that everything is ready for future dramatic play sessions.

Reflect on how this activity helped reinforce social skills like communication, cooperation, and imagination while also integrating elements of math (counting scoops) into their play experience.

We’ll be using these items to make our slime.”

Making Basic Slime: “First, let’s make a basic slime. Pour about half a cup of the clear or white glue into your bowl. Next, add a small amount of the liquid starch and start mixing it together with your fingers. Keep mixing and kneading the mixture until it starts to become stretchy and gooey. This is your basic slime!”

Changing the Color: “Now, let’s make our slime different colors. Before you mix the glue and starch, you can add a few drops of food coloring to the glue. Mix it in really well until the whole slime is the color you want. What colors would you like to make?”

Adding Glitter: “If you want to make your slime extra sparkly, you can add some glitter! Sprinkle a little bit of glitter into your slime and gently mix it in. The glitter will make your slime shine and shimmer.”

Changing the Texture: “To make your slime thicker and more like a putty, you can add a small pinch of baking soda. For a runnier, more oozy slime, you can add a few drops of contact lens solution. Try experimenting and see how the different ingredients change the texture of your slime.”

Exploration and Clean-up: “Now it’s time to play and explore with your slime! See how you can stretch it, squeeze it, and mold it into different shapes. When you’re done, make sure to clean up your area and wash your hands.”
