Description: There was gold nuggets found in Sacramento valley in 1848 which sparked the interest of thousands of gold miners. People from all over started swarming to California to make their own gold discoveries and gain wealth making the non-native population became over 100,000 in just a year.

Cause: Someone made a discovery of gold nuggets in Sacramento and news spread.

Effect: Hundreds of thousands of people migrated to California to make their own gold discoveries and get rich.

Perspective:

Gold miners: Saw this as a once in a lifetime chance to make it big.

Natives of California: Gained a huge amount of population increase.

Connection: The gold rush sped up California joining the union aiding in the reconstruction of the north and south.

Description: The slaughter of hundreds of lokato people buy the u.s. army to stop any more resistance.

cause: There was an agreement that if the Lakota did not fight resist they could keep a good amount of land but America went back on that agreement and started slowly taking more and more land from them them. The Lakota once again tried to resist this.

Effect: The American army gunned down hundreds of Lakota without remorse.

perspective:

Americans: Saw this as a chance to acquire more land for crop production and money.

Lakota: Saw this as unfair and the Americans did not deserve their land and were terrified of what they had done.

Connection: This massacre pushes the citizenship clause of the 14th amendment making anyone born in the u.s. equal and giving them protection.

Description: Abolitionist John brown and his partners including family members killed 5 men at a proslavery settlement on Pottawatomie creek.

Cause: John brown wanted to strike fear in and halt the proslavery groups.

Effect: Him and the others people he gathered go to a proslavery settlement and kill 5 of their people.

Perspective:

John brown: Saw this as a chance to stop some proslavery people and even stop their movements for a little.

Proslavery people: Didn't see this coming and are probably angry and scared of what happened.

Connection: This marked the way for John browns later raid on harpers ferry in the later years.

Description: John brown and his followers came out of hiding and took o hostage prominent citizens of the harpers ferry city along with their federal armory and arsenal in hopes of having the slaves join them and fight the militia. This was not the case as the militia fought back and killed them all.

Cause: John brown did not want to see the proslavery people treating slaves with inequality anymore.

Effect: He took matters into his own hands along with his followers to seize one of the proslavery towns and fight back although they sadly failed.

Perspective:

John brown: Did not want to see slavery taking place any longer and wanted to fight back against it.

Proslavery citizens: Did not see what they were doing was wrong and put a stop to his rebellious activities.

Connection: John brown fought for the cause that the 13th ammendment would succeed in bringing to fruition.

Description: On this date America held a presidential election in which republican abraham Lincoln won over the southern democrat also running and became the U.S. president Leading to secession between north and south.

Cause: There was need for a new president with both democratic and republican representatives wanting to win to enforce their different beliefs.

Effect: Abraham Lincoln won the election causing the north and south to secede from each other due to different views on slavery.

Perspective:

Republicans: Are very satisfied with the outcome of the election and believe this is the best thing to happen for their beliefs to come to fruition.

Democrats: Are not very satisfied with outcome and don't want to be subject to the republicans views and rules so decide to secede.

Connection: This paves the way for Abraham Lincoln to create and pass the emancipation proclamation abolishing slavery once and for all.

Description: As America approaches its 3rd year of the civil war Abraham Lincoln takes the chance to create and pass the emancipation proclamation abolishing all slavery in the southern rebellious states.

Cause: America is almost on its third year of the civil war and Abraham has a chance to achieve his goal in the midst of the confusion between the north and south.

Effect: Abraham creates and passes the emancipation proclamation abolishing slavery in the south.

Perspective:

Republicans: Happy about finally creating equality amongst all americans.

Democrats: Upset about the law that had been passed when they were busy fighting the war.

Slaves: Relieved they finally got the freedom they deserved all along.

Connection: This proclamation realized the dreams of John brown and made his efforts of fighting the south in the Pottawatomie massacre not in vain.

Description: Abraham Lincoln passes the 13th ammendment to abolish all slavery making it effective to all states and not just the southern states that were actively rebelling.

Cause: The emancipation although stopping all slavery in rebelling states; did not work against the bordering states that were not in the fight.

Effect: Abraham Lincoln created the 13th ammendment to stop all states from exercising slavery as a whole.

Perspective:

Republicans: Satisfied to have all states free of slavery.

Slaves in the bordering states: Finally get freedom like the other slaves that were in the southern states actively rebelling.

Officials in bordering states: Have to let go of their slaves just like the other south.

Connection: This Ammendment succeeded where the emancipation proclamation couldn't.

Description: The U.S. senate passed the 14th ammendment to give formerly enslaved citizens the same rights as everyone else as long as you are born or naturalized in America such as the right to vote.

Cause: Although Slaves were free they were still treated as less then the white folk such as politician offices refusing to let them even vote for their own country.

Effect: The U.S. senate passed the 14th ammendment granting former slaves the same rights as anybody else and punishing those who refuse to let them vote.

Perspective:

Former slaves: Happy to finally have legal equality with everyone else.

White men: Upset they have to treat former slaves with equality and let them vote.

Connection: This is the final goal of what Abraham wanted and had in mind when he was first elected in 1860.
