How does your overall learning and Artifacts demonstrate a connection to
the Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice? (in each of the areas - Curriculum,
Guidance, Parent Partnerships)

Curriculum

I have learned how crucial the planning of the activities is. I've come to understand that the meaningful conversations we learned in our curriculum course play a crucial role in observing, engaging, and participating in the children's interests. I now understand that it's not just about collaborating with educators but also about collaborating with children to create child-centered and play-based activities that align with the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice (Standard II Curriculum and Pedagogy, 2017, p. 10). I have also learned that observing and identifying individual and group needs in children is crucial. Children are uniquely different from one another; one may require one-on-one support in a different domain to develop, and some may require group support to cope with what is lacking. In certain situations, there exist groups of children who share a common interest but find it challenging to collaborate effectively. This underscores the importance of closely collaborating with children to provide individual and group support that aligns with the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice (Standard II Curriculum and Pedagogy, 2017, p. 10).

Guiding children comes with respect and being attentive to their needs. In this course, I have learned the strategies when it comes to catering to all the needs of the children with affirmation, respect, and a gentle manner. I have also learned how impactful “I” messages are to children. An “I” message serves as a way of reassuring the child that we acknowledge their feelings, but at the same time we are inculcating in them why and how their actions affect others. It also aids children in developing their problem-solving skills; incorporating "I" messages is crucial as it provides opportunities for them to find solutions to their problems. It is also important to involve children in problem-solving, as I believe this is a crucial aspect that makes learning meaningful for them. Furthermore, the restorative practice has significantly influenced my overall learning experience in this course. This is because it encourages me to consider a more inclusive approach to problem-solving, rather than focusing solely on the child's mistake, which may lead to feelings of guilt or failure. We are making sure to create an environment that fosters a sense of safety, belonging, security, and inclusivity, in accordance with the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice (Standard I Curriculum and Pedagogy, 2017, p. 8).

No one knows their child better than their parents. Parents know their child from birth up until the child attends school. The house serves as the child's first school, and the parents serve as their initial teachers. During our discussions in Understanding Communication with Families and Children, we explored the distinction between parent involvement and family engagement. They may both be terms used in an early childhood setting. Parental involvement is a one-way flow of information, while family engagement is a two-way exchange. Family engagement, being more strength-based, empowers the individuals involved. In my opinion, family engagement is more effective since it is more collaborative and more holistic in terms of building strong and meaningful relationships. It places a strong emphasis on teamwork and shared accountability for a child's education and growth. The goal of family engagement is to establish a setting in which families actively participate in their child's educational journey rather than merely attending school events. I have also learned to align my learning with the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice (Standard II Curriculum and Pedagogy, 2017, p. 11), which emphasizes the importance of effective communication in sharing information about children's development and learning with their families. Simply put, it guarantees informed families and educators, fosters strong relationships between them, and establishes a cooperative strategy to promote the child's development. Using a range of communication techniques and strategies ensures that families remain informed, involved, and engaged in their child's educational path. Good communication fosters relationships, increases trust, and encourages a sense of shared responsibility for the child's growth.

Curriculum

By acknowledging each child’s uniqueness and differences, it will aid me in making a more inclusive and diverse environment that tailors to their needs. The experience I've gained presents a valuable opportunity for me, as it will enhance my ability to design developmentally and age-appropriate activities that allow children to enhance their skills and abilities holistically. I must closely monitor children who require one-on-one support to ensure they are able to cope and do not fall behind. Every child in that classroom possesses potential and deserves a seat at the table.

Guidance

The strategies and approaches that I have learned in this course have equipped me for my future opportunities. From the positive behavior, positive reinforcement, affirmation, negotiation, active listening, and setting limitations, these strategies and approaches will surely be a great asset for me as I step up and step forward on this journey that I have chosen. I am committed to creating a secure, safe, and inclusive environment that actively promotes diversity. In addition to working with children in the classroom, guidance encompasses fostering positive, transparent, and cooperative relationships with families. This involves effective communication, provision of resources and support, and a culturally sensitive approach. I am confident that this approach will positively influence the children and families I will encounter in the future.

Parent Partnership

Knowing each other's history and background is one of the best ways for me to build a responsive relationship with families and the children. Understanding each child's background is crucial for educators, as I firmly believe it shapes their overall character. As I embark on this journey, I have gained skills and knowledge, such as effective communication with families and the confidence to confront them. Family engagement plays a significant role in the development and growth of their children. Not only do the children face challenges, but also their families. I will assist them in navigating these challenges by listening attentively and empathetically, and by providing resources that will support their families. I'm looking forward to working with children and families in the future, and I surely believe that this experience will be a tool for me to connect with them and build trust and rapport with them.
