Looking at these sources supported what I already knew because it showed what Africa was like when they were taken over by Belgian. In both situations the enslaved were treated very bad and would get hit or punished for not listening to what their "boss" would say.

Not only did they take their liberty, but they would take advantage and use violence to get them to do whatever they wanted. Overall, slaves were treated poorly and worked in horrible conditions basically not being seen as human beings.

However, after watching the two videos and three documents, I was introduced to a level entirely above that. I had no idea that severing hands and feet was praised among Belgian colonies. It is more sickening how fathers who did not meet a certain expectation of harvesting rubber, were punished by cutting off limbs of their children. Soldiers were even payed for the amount of severed limbs they brought. I also learned that Europe had a twisted thought process that they were helping the Africans, by forcing them to harvest crops and materials. It feels like they're trying to convince themselves to feel better for the mass genocide they committed. The chocolate hands made me reflect on some of the football teams that did have prejudicial mascots or names.     I knew that they took over Congo for the resources and due to their Idealistic nature they used the people from Congo I just didn't know of the specifics of what they did or what resources they were aiming for. When watching the video I had come to realize why that had happened to the people of Congo and what materials they were after. I had found out they had taken over from the rubber plant which confirmed my idea of the materials are one of the reasons they took over. Then I had found out they were using the people of Congo to work for them to get the rubber plant and if they couldn't or wouldn't they would get beaten.     The fact I knew about the Belgian Congo is they slaved the blacks. They mistreated them when they did something wrong. I had an understanding of how awful they got mistreated hit tortured or even killed. They forced them to work and didn't care as long as they kept doing their forced work.
