I live in Ischia, an island kissed by sun, rich of thermal water, that lives on tourism almost all the year long.I had with my students already exchanged good practices of learning/ methods and they are quite good in using new apps for learning. We use daily a padlet to share our materials, they can use thinglink to present their homework, and new topics are always explained leaving from you tube videos to motivate them and to be more useful, as I teach english.I Think that the environment shoul be their future. I always tell them to create cooperatives in trying to use the new alternatve sources of energy. we had won an european quality label for a project with Turkey " Surviving is not living" and they are able to change ideas if someone helps them.
Otherwise they have to do something more in cleaning the seawater, with special seabins)

As I said before I work in a pre-primary school so STEM can only be worked with easy topics. Currently we are growing our own plants in class so we can invite a gardener who explains us how should we take care of the plant, tells us some tricks so the plant grows faster and more beautiful. Apart from that we have gone to a farm were the employees have explained how they work and "secretly" share some tricks.

I like the words from James Branan when he has said that teachers has to help students to know what they really want to do but without forcing the situation. Also, it's important they know people who have working in different kind of jobs. Our secondary school is located quite far from large cities, so it is not easy to invite STEM professionals to our school. I tried to invited some engineers from nearby factories, but they turned up not to be good speakers and the discussion with students was not very successful.
What has proved to be a better solution is a participation in the discussions organized by the Czech Academy of Sciences where students have the opportunity to discuss with prominent Czech scientists. We attend such an event once a year.

In addition to the guided tour of the various halls of the museum, theoretical lessons, practicals and laboratory activities are provided for a more comprehensive and engaging discussion of the topics related to the Earth, Nature and Life sciences. One of the paths that are proposed and which I particularly consider Interesting is "a paleontologist's day" a complete journey to discovering the fascinating world of fossils that starts from the simulation of a paleontological excavation to come to the recognition of some fossils. I live in the place of El Bierzo, in norther Spain. Maybe, I would invite José Luis Prada to my classes. He is maybe not a traditional STEM role model, but I think that he is good local role model to be followed by students.
Prada created the company PRADA A TOPE, which is dedicated to the manufacturing of wines and delicatessen and to tourism, with his famous hotel and restaurant Palacio de Canedo.
He was once a visionary, who was ahead of the time and created a new concept of products and company who were absolutely new and revolutionary in this region more than 30 years ago.
I am sure that he would motivate the children to develope their skills and competences to their maximum, and leave their legacy to improve the quality of life of the people of the region.

Usually , if it's possible, we invite at school professionals working in different fields . Concerning STEM careers I could invite a (female) construction engineer, an aerospace engineer, a sale manager for a foreign firm, a biologist specialised in apiculture and other holdings. But I'll start from my colleagues as many of them are specialised in different fields: there are a marine biologist, a mycologist, a geologist, an apiculturer and researcher in beekeeping. So we have a lot of choices!
I'll add to a wider Lesson Plan their lecture/activity to deepen the topic and top it all. Before I'll work on the topic with brainstorming, investigation, discussion, work in team and in the end an activity or a simple interview with the scientist could be sufficient to introduce his/her profession.

Javier Fraile is the young manager of what started as a local family business and has turned into a profitable small gardening company in only three years. I think he is a good example of how an ambitious idea and a strong entrepeneurial spirit can lead you to success. He has received many regional awards for this, as he is only 30 years old. Javier is a friendly neighbour very keen on cycling, a hard worker and somebody everyone knows in our town.
