So far I am really excited about this course. All of the assignments are super interesting and relevant to my interests in this current age of digital media and I cant wait to get started working on the assignments. So far I have a couple of brief ideas for the promotional video; which include advertisements for a cafe, a promotional video for a band's debut album release, and maybe a fictional ad for clothing just to name a few.

For my advertisement, i have 3 main target audiences i wish to attract:
1.
wealthy individuals, as they have larger amounts of money to potentially donate. (aged between 35-50, men and women)

2.
young people (early teens)
The recently released Index on Young People and Volunteering by DoSomething.org showed that 93% of young people aged 13-15 surveyed want to volunteer their time. The main reason why they volunteer is if their friends do and it becomes a social activity. Attracting young people is not easy but making volunteering opportunities local, informal, social and set in unconventional settings such as a club or group will help attract them. Engaging them through text is most effective for them to take action; which i plan to do in my video, as it will be mostly text with a narrator.
http://www.miratelinc.com/blog/3-target-demographics-to-boost-nonprofit-fundraising-and-engagement-results-in-2013/

3.
people who may not know much about homelessness
With my advertisement, i plan on using a number of facts and statistics to both educate and inform my audience about the sides of homelessness that are less talked about. In doing this, it might make the audience be more open to donating, as they are will be better educated after watching the video.

Towards the end of the video the narrator says "buy one good thing, do one good thing", which convinces the audience that if they support this organisation, they will be doing a good deed.

This was a useful source as it has inspired me to make my advertisement using animation with a narrator.
