The minimun legal age at which children are authorized to work is 15 years. For light work the minimun age limit ir 13 to 15 years. Finally, to perform hará work the limit amounts to 18 years.

What are the causes of child labor?

Current causes of global child labor are similar to its causes in the U.S. 100 years ago, including poverty, limited access to education, repression of workers’ rights, and limited prohibitions on child labor. Poor children and their families may rely upon child labor in order to improve their chances of attaining basic necessities. More than one fourth of the world’s people live in extreme poverty, according to 2005 U.N. Statistics. The intensified poverty in parts of África, Asia, and Latin America causes many children there to become child laborers.

Does it have negative effects?

The difficulty of the tasks and the hard working conditions create a largue number of problems, such as premature aging, malnutrition, depression or drug addiction.
Children from disadvantaged backgrougs, minority groups or stolen from the family bosom lack protection. Their employers do whatever it takes to make them completely invisible and, therefore, are able to exercise absolute control over them. These childrem work in degrading conditions, which undermines all their fundamental rigths and principles.
On the other hand, working children are not able to have a normal education and will be condemned to become an illiterate adult, without being able to grow in their social and professional Life.
In some cases, child labor also enfangers the dignity and morals of the child, especially when he is the victim of sexual exploitation, such as prostitution or child pornography.
In addition, working children are more exposed to malnutrition and are often victims of physical, mental and sexual violence

What are some of the ways of working?

They consist of all form of slavery or similar practices, such as forced labor, trafficking, debt slavery or servirude. This also includes illegal activities or activities that may endanger the safety, health and morals of children, such as prostitution, pornography, compulsory or forced recruitmen due to armed conflict, drug trafficking, street vendors, etc.
