Punching The Air was a book I want to read because I love reading books where I can't relate to the main character, since it is so cool to see what life is like for other people. This book is about Amal Shahid when he is accused of a crime he did not commit, so he has to get sent to prison. So, he uses he words to help get himself out of jail. Theme: No matter what, keep going and the best will come to you

The setting and characters affect the main character the most: When living in the Garden, lots of people affect her life. The police, Curtis, and their rental person(?). These are some of the people that change her life in negative and positive ways

Through the story, I really felt bad for Bri in a lot of situations, she had been going through many things like running out of electricity, her mother losing her job, struggling against the racism shown in her school, Hype making her look like a fool, her brother and mother both said she couldn’t do rapping, and even having hardships with one of her closest friends

Although I may not be able to completely empathize with Bri, I do have sympathy for her, she was going through a very hard time, but I can not relate to what she is feeling, so I felt really bad for her and tried to put myself in her shoes

I wondered what the story would have been like if Bri hadn’t gone through these struggles. Would she have achieved her dream faster? Would more people know about her? I was really thinking about these things while reading

She has to deal with the racism and hate that is put upon black people, I do not have to deal with that, her dad is dead, mine is definitely not.
