         <title>Arrival </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Walk miles to the village hall.<br>On arrival the billeting officer took the children to the nearest  central clearing point.<br>If not picked they would stay with a teacher, police man or a billeting officer.<br>Register as soon as they got there.<br>People that would have been traveling with them would have been schoolchildren, teachers ,expectant mothers, elderly and invalids.<br>When they got there they weren't even told where they were which caused a lot of confusion for the children.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Where they stayed</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The types of homes they stayed in were cottages, farm houses, small family houses and if they were lucky mansions.<br>Small schools or classes would sometimes stay in mansions or big country homes.<br>Sometimes if there fosters we're not happy with their choice of children they would take them back to the billingting office.<br>If families in the city had friends or family who lived in the countryside they would live with them until the end of the war.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>If children did not have a suitcase they sometimes would use a pillowcase with their name on it.<br>They were told to bring a gas mask, food for 24 hours, warm clothing, night clothes, clean underwear, plimsolls a toothbrush soap and a towel a hairbrush and a warm coat.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Arrangements for transport </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Many went on trains, buses and occasionally boats.<br>Some went overseas to countries like Canada, USA, and Australia.<br>Sometimes boats with evacuees on sank on the way.<br>Children in London were evacuated by the underground to a big nearby train or bus station and we're then evacuated to the countryside. </div>]]></description>

         <title>What was life like</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>No television but on the radio there was Children's hour between 5 &amp; 6 pm.<br>Some children picked up the language but others struggled to understand what was said to them.<br>Some children had to follow the religion of their foster family and go to church or chapel every Sunday.<br>If the children were Jewish and had to eat certain foods,diet was a problem when they were evacuated.</div><div>They were given strange meal combinations.</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>
