         <title>Humpback Bubble Feeding</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Description:&nbsp;<br>This resource is a phenomenon through the use of a video of humpback whales and their feeding habits.&nbsp; In the video the humpback whales are circling underwater creating bubbles that produces a wall around fish.&nbsp; The fish are trapped in a column of water and then the whales move in to feed on the fish.  This would be used at the beginning of a lesson or unit and the students would write down three observations and two questions they have about the phenomenon.&nbsp; As a class the students would discuss their observations and share their questions.&nbsp; &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Melting and Boiling Point Simulation</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>PBS Learning Media<br><br>Description:<br>The simulation shows an ice cube melting into a liquid when heat is added and then eventually the liquid water changes to a gas, steam.&nbsp; The gas particles in the simulation are moving fast and taking up all the available space which includes the air itself.&nbsp; The students will observe the movement of the particles as heat is added and removed from the ice or liquid water.  The students will record their observations and make a concluding statement about phases of matter and moving particles. </div>]]></description>

They will watch the teacher conduct demonstrations where chemical reactions happen and when they do not happen. &nbsp; Then they will build a canister rocket to show a chemical reaction.&nbsp; The final question ask the students an open ended question : Where does rust come from?"</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Wonder of Science<br><br>Description: &nbsp;<br>This phenomenon is a video showing the mixing of three different materials using a sealed bag to show the conservation of mass and creating new substances.&nbsp; This video shows the conservation of mass by measuring the bag before and after the reaction.&nbsp; In addition, it is an example of an exothermic reaction.&nbsp; The bag contains phenol red and when the other materials are added there is a PH change which changes the color.&nbsp; This video would be used as the phenomenon at the beginning of the lesson or unit.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Space Place NASA.gov<br><br>Description:<br>In this activity the students will look at UV Light and how it changes the dye of the paper because of a chemical reaction.&nbsp; The activity has the students use sunscreen on their hands, place them on construction paper, and then leave them in the sun to see the reaction of the dye in the paper.&nbsp; After some time in the sun, the paper where the handprints are not located fade and the handprints remain the same color.&nbsp; The students will find out that during a chemical reaction that substances change to form new substances that cannot be changed back. &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>NOAA Fisheries<br><br>Description:<br>The objective of this lesson is to recognize that salmon are a keystone species.&nbsp; The lesson provides the students with information about changes to the&nbsp; population of&nbsp; keystone species and the major effects it can have throughout an ecosystem. The lesson dives into looking at food chains in ecosystems and how salmon are a major part of many ecosystems.&nbsp; The students learn that if the population of salmon decreases there are some major consequences for many ecosystems.&nbsp; The students begin by looking at different ecosystems and try to identify keystone species.&nbsp; As the students begin to find the keystone species there is a class discussion about salmon being a keystone species.&nbsp; The last part of the lesson the students look for keystone species that are endangered or threatened.&nbsp; They then research why they are endangered or threatened and create a poster board on how individuals can help.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>NOAA.gov<br><br>Description:<br>In this lab activity the students learn about particles in solids liquids, and gases.&nbsp; The students view two demonstrations showing that matter particles move faster when heat is added.&nbsp; They record their observations and answer some questions.&nbsp; The students will observe the demonstrations of food coloring being added to hot and cold water, placing a empty bottle in hot water, and conduct an investigation with a film of bubble and hot water bottle.&nbsp; The students will notice that the food coloring in the hot water spreads faster than the food coloring in the cold water.  They will find that particles move faster when heated and slow down when heat is removed.  &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

As the students through the simulation, they will be asked to answer questions, make a hypothesis, explain their thinking about the simulations, and make some conclusions about their learning. This is student led with the teacher being the facilitator, keeping the students engaged with the simulation.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>NOAA Fisheries<br><br>Description:<br>In this lesson, the students will work in groups to learn about biotic and abiotic things as well as producers, consumers, and decomposers.&nbsp; They will compare and contrast two different aquatic ecosystems and find out how salmon are involved in both ecosystems.&nbsp; The students will create diagrams that show the interaction between aquatic ecosystems.&nbsp; The lesson will begin with a phenomenon video called Exploring Ecosystems: Coastal Food Webs by the California&nbsp; Academy of Science. &nbsp; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVJ5BKcAhAg&nbsp;<br>Then the students will create different food chains and food webs from aquatic ecosystems.
