Did you know...

The STAR tests are adaptive. They will increase or decrease in difficulty as students answer questions

If a student misses the first five to six questions the test will end and not provide the student with a score. If this happens with STAR Reading please have that student take STAR Early Literacy.

If a student can't log in even though they have the correct username and password, then their account is most likely locked. You can unlock student accounts by navigating to the users button and selecting clear locked sudents.

Teacher accounts can also be locked. If this is the case please send me a request (Ruben Aurelio, extension 3529) and I can unlock your account.

All teachers TK-3 currently have access to STAR assessments. You can administer the diagnostic to your class. It is recommended you assess your students to have another data point to compare results with DIBELS. Additionally, you will have diagnostic data for mathematics.

The diagnostic is required for all fourth - eighth graders for both ELA and Math.

Tips to Make Giving STAR a snap:

Make sure to provide students scratch paper and pencil for the STAR Mathematics test. They will need it to do the math as the difficulty increases.

If the system asks the student for a "Monitor Password" - the default password for everyone is "Admin". This password is necessary when pausing an assessment and/or restarting an assessment.

When using the Chromebooks - have students log in as guest and type directly into the address bar "slusd.us" to get to the district homepage. This will bypass the google safe search filter. From there you can have them navigate to the "STAFF" tab and select the link for "Renaissance Place"

The questions have time limits, so encourage students to focus and answer questions as soon as they can. Questions skipped due to the time limit are counted as missed and the test adjusts accordingly.

STAR Early Literacy requires headphones since directions are read to the student by the automated voice.

There is a pretest script to read to students before getting started. This is located once you log in to Renaissance place as a teacher. Select the test you want to give and navigate to the resource link for that test. Here is a link to the STAR REading Pretest PDF https://resources.renlearnrp.com/US/Manuals/SR/SRRPPretestInstructions.pdf

Answer to Grozelia's question:

There isn't an alert that will tell you to administer the Early Literacy versus the STAR Reading. The classroom teacher will need to make that determination based on how the child does on STAR Reading. A student scoring below second grade level should be given the Early Literacy assessment, especially if they are third grade or higher.
