A photogram is a picture taken in a darkroom without a camera by using light sensitive paper and various objects on top of it. To make it work you have to exposed the paper to the light for around about 3-10 seconds depending on the test strip you would have made to see how long you should expose it for. Also how sensitive the paper is to the light.

The light source comes from a enlarger which would have a red filter on it so you can see where the image are placed on the light sensitive paper. The sensitive paper is only sensitive with the blue end of the spectrum so red light will not effect the paper when adjusting it into position.

Once you have shown the paper it will need to be placed in a tray with a chemical developer for around about 2 minutes, this will have to be consistently moving will in the developer. The developer shows the image from black and white. then yoiu will have to place it into stop bath for 30 seconds. The next tray is the fixer which will have to stay in the tray for roughly 5 minutes. This will protect the image from both acid and alkali which it has been mixed with. After doing this you will have place in a tray of water to clean the image from all chemicals. Instead of waiting for the image to dry you could use an image dryer twice.

Film processing

To process film you would have to have taken a photo using film. After doing this you will have to go into a darkroom in complete darkness to attach your film onto the spiral to then place in the tank. You have to do it in complete darkness because light will damage the film by making it foggy (unable to see image).

After closing the lid completely you will have to turn the lights on red lighting. You will then have to place light sensitive paper in a grid under you englarger lens which has a focused image of your print on the paper. Once you are ready you can produce a test strip by shining the light on the paper for 2-3 seconds and move a piece black card a few inches to the right 4-5 times so once after processing you can decide how long you would want to shine the light on your image to see how clear it is.

After successfully shining your image onto the light sensitive paper you will then have to develop your image, this will use the same process as photograms. You will have to ace you paper into the developer for roughly 2 minutes, again for all the process you will have to move them for better results. You then have to move your image into the stop bath for 30 seconds. After the 30 seconds you will have to place your paper/image into a fixer tray to fix your image from the previous steps, lastly you will have to place your image into a tray of water for 10-20 minutes depending on how well it looks or how much time you have.
