Islam was the official religion.
They did not force the people they conquered to change their religion.
Many rulers were very tolerant when it came to religious belief.
After Constantinople was conquered, the ruler at the time, Mehmed, opened it up to people of all religious beliefs and cultures.
Different religious communities were called millets, and each millet was allowed to follow its own religious laws and practices. This kept conflict between religious communities to a minimum.
Cultural blending lead to changes in language, religion, styles of government, the use of technology, and military tactics.
