What did she say?
She wasn't able to use inferences to help. She made assumptions based off of her experiences, but not the story.
How did she respond?
She didn't continue to use in her future readings.
What would I do next time differently?
I would use this after the student had a better understanding of inferring. This book did not work with her reading level and interest.

  • When students are unaware of a word, they should raise their hand for full class or write it down if in small groups.
  • Example from book: Pullman porter-- look at pictures to decide it was a train man that helped with bags.
