Elementary: I was learning new skills like biking and doing things on my own. One summer in third grade, my mom signed me up for swimming lessons, which at first I didn’t enjoy. Over time, swimming became a big part of my life. Through it, I met new friends, traveled to different places, and learned valuable lessons.

Adolescence: When COVID hit, I went through a couple of phases. At first, I felt really down and depressed (though not medically diagnosed). Then, I became interested in making money at a young age and developed a passion for photography, which I still enjoy today, though not as much. I also loved listening to music, as it felt like my own language, a way to express and understand myself.

Face-to-face classes started in Grade 9, and I continued swimming until Grade 10, but I eventually stopped because I moved to Davao. At that time, I didn’t believe in myself enough to manage school, swimming, and living alone, but thankfully, I found an alternative, road running. I joined a few competitions and later discovered trail running and hiking, which I truly enjoyed, especially for the views and the self-reflection it allowed.

Swimming taught me many things that shaped me now, made me realize the importance of trust and patience, that you have to train a lot before you get better, and that there is nothing wrong with winning, and even more when losing.
