The cites in Mesopotamia were mainly made of stone. These stone structures protected people quite well, due to the durability of the stone. The downside to stone houses is that they could easily flood, but the soil was rich for farming. This soil was located near their homes, so they were able to make use of irrigation. Irrigation can be defined as taking water from one place and transporting it into another place. We are able to do this in the present by using pipes.
