Lebanon has been suffering from pollution for many years. The lack of industrial waste monitoring, traffic, untreated sewage, the overuse of generators and vehicle emissions are all contributing factors of polluting the country. The pollution in Lebanon has turned into a public health crisis. Due to the polluted bodies of water in Lebanon, many people get very sick from drinking tap water. The air is very polluted since they burn the trash instead of putting it underground.

Lebanon has seen widespread deforestation due to illegal logging, urbanization, and the expansion of agricultural land. Lebanon’s famous cedar forests, which have been around for thousands of years, are now at risk because of man-made fires and illegal cedar wood trade. To stop deforestation, Lebanon should enforce stronger laws, improve fire control, increase tree planting, and reduce illegal logging.

Since the 1990s, Lebanon has seen rapid urban growth, causing cities to expand quickly. The country is going through a fast period of urban change, known as urban sprawl. Unfortunately, this change is disorganized and unplanned, causing cities to spread out and leading to poor development of basic infrastructure. As more people move to one area, property prices rise, and slums grow. In Beirut, rents are about four times the minimum wage, making housing unaffordable for most and increasing demand in the outskirts.

Lebanon is grappling with a major waste management crisis. Poor landfill management, the absence of recycling initiatives, and improper waste disposal have caused significant environmental harm, especially in Beirut. The "garbage crisis" of 2015 brought these ongoing problems to light. Lebanon can address its waste crisis by enhancing waste management, increasing recycling, promoting composting, and enforcing stricter regulations.
