         <description><![CDATA[<div>Animal welfare act of<mark> 2006 </mark>protects 'animal' means a <mark>vertebrate </mark>other than man. <br><br>Exclusions are that the act does not apply to an animal while it is in its foetal or embryonic form.  <em> <br><br>The animal welfare act is a piece of legislation which aims to ensure that animals are not mistreated by humans, this can be through improper care or sheer crulety.<br></em><br><em>Serious crimes can lead to £20,000 or 51 week imprisonment.          <description><![CDATA[<div>- This act protects badgers from being killed, illfully treated or injured. it also protects their setts (burrows) so that you cannot dig for a badger, get a dog to enter its sett or disturb a badger when it is occupying a sett.</div><var><strong>enforcement and penalties</strong> </var><div>1. a person convicted of an offence under the terms of the act is liable to a term of improsonment for 6 to 12 months or a fine of £5000<br>2. any dog used in the commission of an offence may be put down, and the owner not being allowed to own a dog.<br><br></div><var>exclusions </var><div>taking a badger which has been injured and is taken for the purpose of helping it.<br>killing a badger that is so seriously injured that was no chance of it surviving.<br>the law is not confined to those in badger baiting, property developers, farmers, game-keepers, home-owners and pest control companines.<br><br><br>how long will you be imprisoned for?<br>who does this act exclude?<br><br>Emily &amp;Kate<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>The Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Primary legislation which protects animals and plants and habitats that inhabit in the UK!<br>- Under the act; all wild birds, their nests and eggs are protected by law. game birds aren't included as they are protected by the game acts. <br>- Its an offence to injure, disturb, kill or take any wild bird intentionally. <br>- Endangered species such as red squirels are protected.          <title>abandonment of animals act 1960: </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The abandonment of animals act is now covered by the animal welfare act, it is a subsection of the AWA.<br>&nbsp;<br>This act makes it offence for a person&nbsp; having control of an animal to delibratly and without good cauz to abandon it permently in circumstances likely to cause unnessicery suffering.&nbsp;<br><br>This can incliude, the release of foxes at an unsuitable site in the wrong territory and not having learned how to hunt properly and being in an unfit state to be released.&nbsp;<br><br>This act protects all wild animals including ones which have been hand reared.&nbsp;<br><br>If you breach this act you are breaking the animal welfare act 2006. The penilites for breaching this incliude: The Local Authority, Police or a member of the public can undertake a prosecution which can be started up to 3 years after the offence (as long as its is within 6 months of the evidence becoming available).</div><div>Penalties</div><div>Penalties will vary, but the most serious offences could incur a fine of up to £20,000 and /or 51 weeks imprisonment.          <description><![CDATA[<div>game includes; hare, pheasants, partridge, grouse, heath, black game(grouse), red game (grouse.)<br><br>No partridge may be killed between 1st feb and 1st sept.<br>No pheasent may be killed between 1st feb and 1st oct.<br>No black game may be killed (in somerset, devon, and the newforest) between 10th dec and 1st sept. other areas of the uk are between 10th dec and 10th aug.<br>No red game may be kiled betweeb 10th dec and 12th aug.<br>No bustard may be killed between 1st march and 1st sept.<br><br>You cannot kill without an anual game licence.<br>A land lord can allow others to kill on their land is they have a licence.<br>Killing without a licence is up to a £200 fine per peice of game.<br>Selling without a dealer licene is up to a £200 fine.&nbsp;<br>Jaz &amp; Beth</div>]]></description>
