Italy and Egypt controlled all of the trade between Asia and the rest of Europe by the 1400s. After Ottoman Empire took over Constantinople it blocked European access to the area, making trade even more limited than before. It also blocked the access to North Africa and the Red sea which were very two important trade routes to the far east.

The Age of Exploration was a time of discovery. Everyone wanted better trade routes, gold, power, and wealth. But for example in source 3, French Explorer Jacques Cartier explained how there was a strong illness spreading among the people and killed more than 50 locals, this illness was a discovery because it wasn't known until it started to spread. Then Chief Donnacona brought some local cure that was supposed to make the illness vanish, so then the cure becomes a new discovery causing the people who are weak and close to death could take it to get better. They also found new lands, some even became rich by discovering gold and silver, or trying to find new trade routes.
