Uncle Tom's Cabin was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, that showed the cruelty of slaves and tried to change the minds of those who lived in the south. During the time Stowe wrote the book, where you were born was where you would most likely stay. Uncle Toms Cabin changed and showed a new perspective of those who never saw slavery first hand. Though it isn't an actual cause of the Civil War starting it for sure left a long-lasting impact that affected both sides of the war.

Dred Scott was a slave who traveled with his owner, Peter Blow, and for most of his life lived in the free territory. Peter died leaving Scott ownerless. Scott being as intelligent as he was made a case out of this that went as far as the Supreme Court and was denied. The judge of this case pretty much said once property always property and decided African Americans' fate into life. This decision was one of the last things that led up to the civil war. That case, later on, in some ways may have helped influence amendment 14.
