EHR is a an electronic documentation of patient's medical/surgical information in a computer in a health care system. EHR includes information about patient's health history including vitals, allergies, BMI, diagnosis , lab tests, code status, immunization and treatment plans (Uslu & Stausberg, 2021). With the innovation of EHR , health care system has come a long way.

-EHR improves quality and efficiency of health care by reducing the chances of medical errors.

-EHR provides cost effective and comprehensive health information. EHR enables to access patient's detailed information in one place. So, providers don't have to spend time ordering and reviewing the results of duplicate tests and medical procedures.

-EHR helps to minimize medication error.

-EHR helps with better coordination among health care providers.

-EHR provides comprehensive and legible records.(Neal,2021)

-Patient's concern: Patient's can easily misinterpret data entered in EHR.

-Costly: Maintenance and implementation of EHR can be costly in the beginning.

-Privacy concerns: Since the data is digitally entered there is always a high risk of privacy breach.

-Changes in workflow: Health care providers might have to spend more time documenting rather than focusing on actual patient care .

-Inservice education: EHR needs constant update and health care workers need ongoing training and technical support.

EHR is a very helpful tool in today's world. It not only reduces medical errors but also provide effective health care to patients. EHR have lead to improved patient care. For example, researchers have found that use of influenza and pneumococcal vaccinations have increased from 0% to 35-50% because of computerized physician reminders (Uslu & Stausberg, 2021).
